As a rookie, Michael Jordan swept the NBA world. After a brilliant college career, Jordan showed the NBA what he was capable of.
Jordan won the Rookie of the Year award with 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
Jordan leads the Chicago Bulls in terms of points, rebounds, assists and steals per game. His total score also leads the league.
It's unheard of for a rookie to have such a strong dominance, and Chicago fans love Jordan's efforts.
But not everyone likes Jordan. It was evident in Jordan's first All-Star Game, which was his rookie season.
The problem first felt like it was in a dunk contest. Jordan appears wearing his Nike "Trapeze Jordan" costume.
He also wore gold chains to the dunk contest.
Obviously, it's uncomfortable for some veteran players in the league, especially some of the older players who play in the All-Star Game.
The main players who have reportedly opposed Jordan's "fan" are George Rwen, Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas.
How could a rookie player, dressed in the clothes he paid to represent, make these players so uneasy?
Could it be the fact that, as a rookie, Jordan made more money from Nike contracts than most players have made throughout their NBA careers? in all probability!
Didn't all the ads showing the young star make veterans jealous? Possibly
If telling you all the answers above is correct, however, Jordan has also done a few other things to these players that make them angry.
1984 Summer Olympics
The summer before becoming a professional basketball player, Michael Jordan was preparing for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The U.S. basketball national team prepares for the Olympics by participating in the NBA All-Star Game.
The NBA All-Star lineup includes big names like Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Mark Aguirre and, of course, Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas.
The U.S. team has other reliable players besides Jordan, such as Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin and Sam Perkins. But Jordan will be the most dazzling.
Jordan directly ignited the flames of the NBA All-Star team, which is unheard of. The All-Star Team had the best players in the NBA that year, and these kids who had never played in the NBA made them look like high school students.
The U.S. national team played the NBA All-Stars in eight exhibition games, and they won all eight games.
Jordan proved to every Chicago fan that the Bulls had chosen the right one.
After the Start of the Olympics, Jordan continued to dominate. Jordan led team USA to 8-0 at the same time, leading the team with an average of 17.1 points per game.
There have been reports that Thomas and some other NBA All-Star players are upset that this fresh-graduated kid is rubbing against them.
1985 NBA All-Star Game
After winning a gold medal and a dunk title, will rookie Michael Jordan still count on bringing home the All-Star Game MVP?
Honestly, no. Rookie Jordan came to the All-Star Game to mingle with the other stars.
"It was quiet when I went there," Jordan said of his first All-Star Experience. "I don't want to go there and act like I'm a big rookie and you have to respect me."
Jordan may not want to be a "big man" rookie, but some other players see him that way. So they made a plan to keep him "cold" outside of the game.
The plan was for West side's George Gervin and Magic Johnson to stare at Jordan defensively throughout the game. In the All-Star Game, players usually relax, especially in the first three quarters.
Now, for Isaiah Thomas, who is with Jordan on the Eastern Conference side, his task is to make sure Jordan doesn't touch the ball.
In fact, Jordan touched the ball, he shot 9 times, but only 2 times.
Even for Jordan as a rookie, it wasn't a typical Jordan game. To the naked eye, Jordan doesn't seem to be among them.
In the All-Star Game, Jordan was the only starter in the East who made fewer than 10 shots. Even the two substitutes made at least 10 shots.
After the game, buzz broke out about what Jordan called a "cold field." Thomas was the harshest in the media.
Thomas talks about cold games many times. Most notably, during the 2003 All-Star Weekend, Thomas was coaching in the East and Jordan played his final All-Star Game.
"I watched the footage of that game at least 60 times to see if I could give him the ball at some point, but no. I brought that disk of magnets, and the first person to ask me, I would say, 'For you, do some homework,'" Thomas said in an interview with The Washington Post.
The event between Jordan and Thomas will be the beginning of one of the toughest rivalries the NBA has ever seen.
When Jordan entered the Basketball Hall of Fame, he mentioned cold games in his speech
Jordan may condemn the idea that the veteran will push him out of the game, but insiders have repeatedly said that Jordan does believe in Thomas, the magician, and Gervin pushes him out of the game.
In 1988, in an interview with Roy Fellstone, Jordan was asked about the cold game:
"I'm confused," Jordan said. "I don't understand what the hell is going on. I don't understand why. ”
Former free press sports writer Charlie Vincent was the first person to break stories about the freeze.
He wrote an article the day after the All-Star Game saying that Dr. Charles Tucker, an adviser to Thomas and Magic Johnson, told reporters that Thomas and Gwynn refused Jordan's pass to teach him a lesson.
Vincent also wrote in his article:
Hours after the All-Star Game, when Tucker, Thomas, and George Gervin of San Antonio met on their way to board the plane to Detroit, they talked for a while before bursting into a burst of laughter.
Vincent then wrote what Tucker had apparently said:
We're talking about how well they made Jordan. I got together with a group of people on Saturday to discuss it, but some of them thought we had gone too far.
Does this prove that Thomas, The Magician and Gervin Jordan were behind the cold? We can't be sure, because Thomas completely denies the story.
When the American Dream team was selected in 1992, Thomas was conspicuously absent from the roster. Jordan reportedly said he wouldn't play if Thomas was on the team.
Is this Jordan's revenge on Thomas? A lot of people claimed it was, but Jordan's real revenge was in the first game after the All-Star game.
The first game after the All-Star game happened to be the Bulls in Chicago against the Detroit Pistons
Before the game, reporters talked a lot about the All-Star Game.
At the time, we didn't know, but we would realize that Michael Jordan listened to everything and what he heard became his motivation.
In this game, Jordan really showed us what the future holds. He broke through the Pistons' defense like they were trapped in molasses.
Jordan seemed to be able to do whatever he wanted at any time.
However, with 5 seconds left in the game, the two sides were tied and Isaiah Thomas got the ball and had a chance to win the game.
Thomas didn't shoot because the ball was slapped off from his hand.
In overtime, the Bulls won 139-126. Jordan scored a career-high 49 points from 19-of-31 shooting, and he also grabbed 15 rebounds.
This game truly became the first time we witnessed Michael Jordan's competitive spirit!
