His writing was very good, and there was no one he had ever seen who did not praise it; but his composition was not strong, and the article was written very generally. Therefore, he did not pass the examination until he was 35 years old (imaginary age, the same below), and did not pass the examination until the age of 47.

However, Deng Zhongyue was not discouraged, Kangxi sixty years, he once again took the exam, this time the kung fu did not pay off, he passed the pass, finally broke into the palace examination, and was designated by the chief examiner as one of the lower ranks of the top ten, sent to the Kangxi Emperor's imperial review.
The elderly Kangxi had read too many good articles, so he read the first few brilliantly written articles, and he only nodded slightly. However, when he turned to Deng Zhongyue's examination paper, his eyes lit up, and he felt that this character was really beautifully written, and no one in manchu literature and martial arts was comparable!
Although Deng Zhongyue's article was mediocre, Kangxi still loved it more and more the more he looked at it, and couldn't help but lift the imperial pen and approve eight words on Deng's volume: "The article is flat, and the words are overwhelming the world." As a result, Deng Zhongyue, who had failed the exam repeatedly and was 48 years old at the time, became the head of this section, which exploded a big cold door and left a good story for future generations.
