Ecological bottoming, farewell to "black smell"
"What 'river of life', the water is black and smelly, and if you drink it, you are afraid that you will get sick." This is a complaint from the past of "old Chengdu". What they call the "river of life" is the Shahe River.
Shahe River, known as Phoenix Water and Shengxian Water in ancient times, has a history of more than 1500 years, and is known as the "Sister Three Rivers" of Chengdu together with the Fu River and the South River. In the 1950s, with the construction of a number of large factories in the eastern suburbs of Chengdu, Shahe undertook 90% of the total industrial and domestic water consumption of Chengdu, which was affectionately known as the "River of Life" by Chengdu people.
However, due to the rapid development of the city and the economy, the shahe river basin has been polluted by the environment, the water quality has deteriorated, the river has silted up, and the river embankment has fallen into disrepair, which has directly affected the quality of life of the residents along the coast and the quality of the water environment in the lower reaches of the Min River.
Xie Zhenchuan, director of the River Supervision Service Center of Chengdu Municipal Water Affairs Bureau, mentioned, "Since 2001, the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have invested a total of 3.248 billion yuan in the Shahe River improvement project for three years, and the planned rectification scope involves 4.63 square kilometers, the length of the river is 22.22 kilometers, and the sides of the river are 50-200 meters. The main contents of the construction of the project include pollution control, flood control and river embankment improvement, greening and landscape, roads and bridges, cultural brilliance and other supporting projects."
Livable "green bank", file upgrade
It is understood that since 2017, the River Supervision Affairs Center of Chengdu Municipal Water Affairs Bureau has built a carbon sequestration water network for biodiversity by planting meadows and flower meadows, strengthening the ecological foundation of Shahe River with forests and water as the core, and improving the carrying capacity of Shahe Greenland. By 2021, the Shahe River Basin has implemented 81 renovation and upgrading projects, with more than 800,000 square meters of restored land and more than 85,000 square meters of planting flower fields, improving the functions of Shahe's ecology, water replenishment, flood control, fitness, and leisure.
Today, the 22.22-kilometer-long Shahe River has been re-divided into 14 from the previous 11 lots, "the volume of each lot is more equal, and the landscape construction and green management are divided according to star standards, which is more scientific." Li Pengfei, director of the river green space management station of the River Supervision Affairs Center of chengdu water bureau, said.
While the fine management of the bidding section means that the "guardians" of each link of shahe's greening, cleaning, flood prevention, and supervision will usher in more severe challenges.
Multi-dimensional ecology, synergistic symbiosis
It is reported that in the new round of water system governance, the ecological sequence and wildlife habitat ecosystem restoration path from the bottom of the lake to the flowers at the lakeside and then to the forest and grass on the shore of the lake have been implemented for the upper reaches of the Shahe River, and the ecological sequence and the restoration path of the wildlife habitat ecosystem in the upper reaches of the Shahe River; through mechanical + manual methods, the submerged plants at the bottom of the lake and the floating water plants on the lake surface are sorted out, and ornamental water plants such as cattails, purple flower irises and reeds are planted on the shore to build a composite ecosystem of synergistic symbiosis; and scientific and accurate water control methods are used to regulate and maintain the overall ecology of the lake.
It can be seen that through a new round of treatment measures, the Shahe River has changed from the previous single water quantity dispatch to the multi-target dispatch of water quantity, water quality, and water ecology, improving the water quality of the lake, and creating a complete and multi-dimensional river and lake ecological community along the Shahe River.
