On November 30, 2021, the Suqian Intermediate People's Court publicly pronounced a verdict on the bribery case of Chen Lin, former deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Zhenjiang Municipal People's Congress, sentencing defendant Chen Lin to 11 years' imprisonment and a fine of 1.5 million yuan for accepting bribes; the property obtained from the crime of accepting bribes was recovered and handed over to the state treasury.

After trial, it was ascertained that from 2009 to 2020, defendant Chen Lin took advantage of her position as the mayor of Dantu District of Zhenjiang City, the secretary of the district party committee, and the deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Zhenjiang Municipal People's Congress to seek benefits for relevant units and individuals in enterprise operation, case handling, etc., and illegally accepted property given by the above-mentioned units and individuals, directly or through specific related persons, totaling more than RMB15.69 million, of which accepting property worth 4 million yuan was an attempted crime.

The Suqian City Intermediate People's Court held that defendant Chen Lin, as a state functionary, took advantage of her position to seek benefits for others and illegally accepted property from others, the amount of which was particularly huge, and her conduct constituted the crime of accepting bribes. In view of the fact that after he arrives at the case, he can truthfully confess his crime, take the initiative to confess some of the facts of the crime of accepting bribes that the case-handling organs have not grasped, and some of the crimes are attempted, admit guilt and accept punishment, withdraw all the stolen funds, and may be given a lenient punishment in accordance with law. The Tribunal accordingly rendered the above-mentioned judgment.
