Today, the Lithuanian Government, in spite of China's strong opposition and repeated dissuasion, approved the establishment of the so-called "Taiwan Representative Office in Lithuania" by the Taiwan authorities. As a member of the European Union, does Lithuania violate the consensus reached between China and the EU on the one-China principle? Recently, when attending the "60-minute briefing" of the European Policy Center, Ambassador Zhang Ming, head of the Chinese Mission to the EUROPEAN Union, specifically reviewed the public commitments made by the European leaders on Taiwan-related issues at the beginning of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU.

Ambassador Zhang Ming pointed out that in 1975, the vice chairman of the Commission of the European Economic Community, Sommes, visited China and reached an agreement with the Chinese side on the establishment of formal relations between China and the European Community. On The issue of Taiwan, Sommes said that "all member States of the European Community recognize the Government of the People's Republic of China and have adopted a position accepted by the People's Republic of China on the question of Taiwan." In accordance with these positions, I confirm that the EUROPEAN Community does not maintain any official relations or conclude any agreements with Taiwan. "This commitment constitutes a legal obligation and constraint on the EU and member states, and the EU should be convinced."

Ambassador Zhang Ming stressed that some people seem to think that Taiwan is a card that can be played and played very well, and that it can be used to harm China's interests. Such an act will never change the fact that both sides of the strait belong to one China, but will only strengthen the determination of the Chinese people to defend sovereignty and territorial integrity and realize the complete reunification of the motherland.
