On November 18, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the list of new academicians in 2021. Wu Minghong, a professor at the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering of Shanghai University, was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, marking a major breakthrough in the construction of the school's high-level talent team.

Wu Minghong, female, Han ethnicity, born in March 1968, Dongyang, Zhejiang, began working in April 1992, joined the Communist Party of China in March 2001. He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering of Shanghai University, the director of the Key Laboratory of "Organic Composite Pollution Control Engineering" of the Ministry of Education of Shanghai University, and the director of the Shanghai Engineering Technology Research Center for "Collaborative Governance of Multi-media Environment". In 2021, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
From September 1985 to July 1989, he was an undergraduate student majoring in applied chemistry at Shanghai University of Science and Technology (merged with Shanghai University of Technology, the former Shanghai University and Shanghai Science and Technology College to form the new Shanghai University in 1994), a master's degree in organic chemistry at Shanghai University of Science and Technology from September 1989 to March 1992, and a doctoral candidate in radiation chemistry at the Shanghai Institute of Nuclear Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (now the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) from September 1996 to July 1999 During this period, he was a visiting scholar and went to the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute twice to carry out cooperative research. He has served as the director of the Graduate School of Shanghai University, the secretary of the Party Committee, the executive dean and the dean of the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, and has been the vice president of Shanghai University since 2013.
Professor Wu Minghong is a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering and the Academy of Natural Sciences, a recipient of the National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars, a special professor of the Ministry of Education, a national candidate for the Million Talents Project, a member of the International Cooperation Department of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education, a member of the Environmental Department of the Eighth Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, a chairman of the Water Environment Professional Committee of the All-China Environmental Protection Federation, an honorary chairman of the VOCs Prevention and Control Committee, and the editor-in-chief, deputy editor-in-chief or editorial board of many academic journals at home and abroad.
Professor Wu Minghong has won 2 second prizes of the National Natural Science Award, 1 first prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 first prize of the Shanghai Natural Science and Technology Award, 1 special prize of the All-China Environmental Protection Federation for Scientific and Technological Progress, 1 Guanghua Engineering Youth Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 1 special prize of Shanghai Teaching Achievements. He has won the honorary titles of National Model Teacher, National Female Workers Meritorious Service Pacesetter, Shanghai Municipal Women's Innovation Award, "March 8" Red Flag Bearer Pacesetter, Shanghai Top Ten Scientific and Technological Elites and so on.
Professor Wu Minghong has long been engaged in the teaching and scientific research of multi-media environmental collaborative protection and comprehensive management and related disciplines. Aiming at the scientific problem of multi-media composite pollution collaborative treatment, starting from the component characteristics of composite pollutants, a series of achievements have been made in the research field of environmental functional materials and the application of organic composite pollution control projects. He has obtained 65 national invention patents, published 2 monographs, published more than 200 papers in academic journals such as Nature and Nature Chemistry, and cited more than 26,000 papers in SCI, and was selected as a highly cited scientist in the world.
