On November 18, the results of the co-election of academicians of the two academies, which are held every two years, were officially announced. In this round of co-elections, a total of 149 persons were elected. Among them, 65 academicians were co-elected by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 84 academicians were co-elected by the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
According to CCTV News, among the 65 new academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, there are 12 in the Department of Mathematical Physics, 11 in the Department of Chemistry, 10 in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, 9 in the Faculty of Geosciences, 10 in the Faculty of Information Technology Sciences, and 13 in the Faculty of Technical Sciences. The average age of newly elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is 57.4 years old, the minimum age is 45 years old, the maximum age is 68 years old, and 76.9% are under 60 years old (inclusive).
Among the 84 new academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, there are 11 members in the Faculty of Mechanical and Transport Engineering, 10 in the Faculty of Information and Electronic Engineering, 8 in the Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, 9 in the Faculty of Energy and Mining Engineering, 10 in the Faculty of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering, 8 in the Faculty of Environmental and Textile Engineering, 10 in the Faculty of Agriculture, 11 in the Faculty of Medicine and Hygiene, and 7 in the Faculty of Engineering Management. The average age of newly elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering is 58 years old, the minimum age is 51 years old, the maximum age is 69 years old, and 75% are under 60 years old (inclusive).
Among them, Pu Shilong, a 45-year-old professor at Peking University's School of Urban and Environmental Sciences, is the youngest member of the academicians of the two academies in this round.
According to public information, Park Received his bachelor's degree in environmental science from the Department of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Peking University in 1999 and his Ph.D. in physical geography from the School of environment of Peking University in 2004. After graduating with a Ph.D., he went to the French Laboratory for Climate and Environmental Sciences (Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de I'Environnement) for postdoctoral research.
In January 2007, Park returned to his alma mater, Peking University, as a researcher at the School of Urban and Environmental Studies, and then as a professor in August 2010.
At the academic level, Park Shilong's research direction is global change and terrestrial ecosystems, and his current main interests include the carbon cycle of terrestrial ecosystems, the impact of climate change on vegetation growth, ecological hydrology, and the feedback of land use change on climate, and he has won the Top Ten News of Basic Research in China in 2009 (the first person to complete), the 12th China Youth Science and Technology Award in 2011, and the top ten scientific and technological progress of Chinese colleges and universities in 2013 (the first person to complete). In 2016, the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Earth Science Award and many other honors.
He has published more than 250 papers in SCI(E) journals, including more than 120 first or corresponding author papers. On the Web of Science, SCI(E) papers have been cited more than 25,000 times, and more than 30 first-or-corresponding author papers have been cited more than 100 times. The results were reviewed by Nature (4 papers), Nature Climate Change (1 article), and Nature Ecology Evolution (2 papers). Since 2017, he has been selected as one of the "GlobalLy Highly Cited Scientists" (earth science field) published by Clarivate Analytics.
It is worth mentioning that among the new academicians of the two academies in the past, the youngest is Lu Ke, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences who was 38 years old at the time and was co-elected in 2003.
Born in May 1965, Lu Ke is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, vice governor of Liaoning Province, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, and director of the Shenyang National Research Center for Materials Science at the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2003, Lu Ke was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the age of 38.
