author:Nine factions view the world

"Every time I participate in the trial of a case, I use the trial process as an analysis of the psychological conditions of the parties, trying to find out the causes of the defendant's crime and the degree of subjective malignancy from a psychological point of view. Long-term experience in psychological counseling has allowed me to form a preliminary psychological assessment of the causes of the crime of the parties while listening to the interrogation in the court. For jury work, Li Youjun has his own unique feelings.

Li Youjun, people's assessor of the Baoshan Court: Read the "heart language" intensively to protect fairness and justice

In April 2019, Li Youjun was appointed as a people's assessor by the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Baoshan District People's Congress. As a psychological counselor, she pays attention to observing and grasping the psychological status of the parties in the jury process, takes the psychological performance as the focus of attention, constantly thinks about how to better combine and apply what she has learned and thinks with the jury work, and strives to achieve both promotion and double improvement of jury ability and her own work ability.

In the more than two years since serving as a people's assessor, Li Youjun has participated in the trial of dozens of criminal cases at the Baoshan District People's Court. In 2020, she tried a case of "freezer hiding mother's body". Born in 1976, the client is rich and powerful but addicted to the online world all day, relying on the pension of his 68-year-old mother to make ends meet. After his mother's sudden death due to illness, he put his body in a freezer and hid it, and continued to receive a pension for half a year.

From a legal point of view, the fraudulent behavior of the parties has violated the criminal law; but from a psychological point of view, Li Youjun feels that the parties are a typical example of psychological distortions and even distortions due to the influence of family education and personal growth experiences. During the collegial discussion, Li Youjun and the judge analyzed the criminal psychological performance of the parties, combined with the details of their long-term stay at home, addiction to the Internet, and being doted on by their mothers, and deeply explored the causes, processes, motives and psychology of their crimes. The judge fully affirmed her psychological professional opinion and incorporated it in the adjudication process. This made Li Youjun truly feel: "My own work and the responsibilities of the people's assessors can be mutually integrated. In the process of participating in the trial for more than two years, Li Youjun has successively put forward more than 50 professional psychological assessment opinions, and she is also proud that she can use the knowledge and experience accumulated by her own work to help the trial of the case.

During his tenure as a people's assessor, Li Youjun often encountered younger parties with lower levels of education. In court, she often saw the regretful tears, sluggish and confused eyes and helpless sad expressions on the faces of them and their parents, these vivid cases made Li Youjun's mood deep, and prompted her to study psychological knowledge in order to better participate in the case, and at the same time, she could also carry out appropriate psychological intervention in combination with the trial of the case to enhance the social effect of the adjudication. To this end, Li Youjun specially studied child psychology and obtained the child psychological counselor qualification certificate, also studied family therapy courses, obtained the family therapist certificate, and has been absorbed as a member by the Clinical Psychology and Psychological Counseling Professional Committee of the Shanghai Psychological Association, the Shanghai Psychological Crisis Intervention Center, and the Shanghai Mental Health Association.

"The law is sacred, and the work of the people's assessors is glorious. I hope to further apply my psychological knowledge to make the parties wake up and truly feel that the bottom line of the law cannot be touched; I will strive to form complementary advantages with judges, actively participate in the trial and performance of duties, and make my own contributions to the construction of the rule of law! "Intensive reading of "heart language" and "mental strength", Li Youjun continues to guard fairness and justice on the road of jurors.
