The Chestnut-headed Bee Tiger in the Field Manual of Chinese Birds No. 186 (scientific name: Merops leschenaulti) is a Buddhist monk, a bird of the family Bee Tiger family, with a body length of about 20 cm.

The plumage is predominantly green and brown , with bright maroon colours on the top of the head , pillow and upper back. The mouth is slender and curved, the apex is pointed, the mouth peak has a ridge; the nostrils are exposed; the primary flight feathers are 10 pieces; the tail feathers are 12 pieces; the body feathers are dense, normal and without longitudinal lines;

Caudal square, central tail feathers do not elongate, are homomorphic with lateral tail feathers, and do not have narrow or pointed feathers. The feet are slender, the wings are long and pointed, the first flight feathers are small, and the second is the longest. The plumage is bright, the sexes are similar, and the young birds resemble adult birds.

It lives in hilly woodlands near villages; arboreal; feeds on flying insects in the air, especially bees; digs tunnels in mountainous soil walls as a nest; and has a rounded white egg shape. It is found in Indochina, Sri Lanka, Java and China.

Listed on the IUCN 2012 Red List of Threatened Species ver3.1 – No Threatened (LC).
