According to NBC News reported on the 12th, prosecutors said that Adam, the son of NBA basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was sentenced to 180 days in prison on Wednesday for stabbing a neighbor with a knife when he had a dispute with a neighbor in Southern California last year about a garbage can.

The incident occurred on June 9, 2020, when the 60-year-old victim, Raymond Windsor, suffered head, back, neck and side injuries. Prosecutors said Adam's behavior was so bad that he even broke the old man's skull, and Windsor nearly died of excessive blood loss after passing out outside the hospital.

Adam, 29, was charged with a knife-wielding act in August 2020 and faces a maximum sentence of nine years. According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, Adam has pleaded guilty to three counts of using a lethal weapon to injure a person and one count of carrying a dagger or sharp weapon.

Adam accepted a plea from Orange County High Court Judge Derek Johnson.

The district attorney's office said the sentencing was postponed until Jan. 7 next year so Adam could apply for home-based house arrest instead of going to jail, adding that probation officers would decide whether to allow him to be placed under house arrest at home.

The district attorney's office said they were "angry" at the verdict, arguing that the punishment was inconsistent with the crime. The victim, Windsor, appeared in court Tuesday and pleaded with the judge to send Adam to jail.

District Attorney Todd Spitzer said: "This slight penalty is definitely a miscalculation. The victim almost lost too much blood in front of the emergency room door and died, he was violently stabbed one after another, and his skull was broken. The Orange County District Attorney's Office strongly opposed the court-imposed 6-month prison sentence — and possibly home arrest — because we believed that the complete disregard for life in the trash can dispute was so shocking that it deserved a prison sentence. The victim of this case not only suffered serious physical problems, he also endured the psychological trauma of going out of the house and into the front yard every day, experiencing the psychological trauma of such a violent attack. It's simply terrible. ”

Adam's lawyer, Shawn Holley, said in an emailed statement: "The facts behind this matter are very controversial. There is no dispute that Adam immediately called the 911 police after the incident and fully cooperated with law enforcement. The other side does not. Adam's claims were supported by those who knew both sides. To continue his life, Adam agreed to plead guilty, suspended for two years and placed under house arrest for 180 days. ”
