Yesterday, the Municipal Dermatology Hospital received three children who were stung by jellyfish in the morning, two of whom were stung while playing in Xiajiahezi, and one was stung in another place. According to relevant reports, after every autumn, Dalian will enter the "stinging boom", and doctors remind parents to take their children out to play in the water, and they must pay attention to the occurrence of jellyfish.

It is understood that there are two children who were stung by boys, about 9 years old, the symptoms are relatively mild, and there is a girl who was stung, 7 years old this year, the symptoms of allergies are more obvious. What worries doctors is that many parents do not pay attention to their children's jellyfish stung, or even ignore the relevant tests. Think that the beginning of the rash, itchy skin for a few days is fine, there is no need to do examinations, there is no need to take medicine. In this regard, the doctor pointed out that this practice of parents is not advisable.

According to doctors, the jellyfish's venom can cause skin allergies, poisoning and even death after being injected into the human body by its stinging cells. The severity of each person's sting is different, which is closely related to the type of jellyfish, the way, area, time, on-site treatment, the morning and evening of the visit, and the sensitivity of the individual's own constitution.

The stung part usually feels tingling and burning immediately, the feeling will last for several minutes or even tens of minutes, and the skin symptoms such as erythema, papules or wheals in the sting site can appear as soon as half a minute after being stung, and the symptoms may subside or worsen over time, and in severe cases, skin symptoms such as blisters and exudates will appear. There are also some patients with late allergic reactions, some are stung by jellyfish for 3 to 5 days, or even longer before the skin allergy symptoms appear, and some are just stung by the jellyfish skin has allergy symptoms, but a few days after the treatment improved, the same allergy symptoms appeared again in the same position of the skin. Cases of such delayed allergic reactions are also often encountered in outpatient clinics and cannot be ignored.

If stung by a large, toxic jellyfish, usually within 1 to 4 hours there will be chills, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, dyspnea, pulmonary edema, etc., the most serious consequence is death, the main cause of death is caused by anaphylactic shock, acute non-cardiac pulmonary edema.

Good reminder

There are two things to keep in mind about jellyfish

A.

Jellyfish are poisonous, don't touch them

Some out-of-town tourists do not know that jellyfish are poisonous, and let children catch jellyfish by hand and are attacked by jellyfish. Relevant studies have shown that the sting cells of fresh jellyfish contain venom, and their toxins are composed of a variety of polypeptide substances, and 1 gram of stinging cells contains 55 million single spiny filamentocysts. Jellyfish toxin is 250 times more toxic than sea snake toxin and 450 times more toxic than tetrodotoxin. Jellyfish rely on the spikes on the tentacles to protect themselves, the tentacles touch people, they will be wrapped up, and at the same time, the sacs will pop out of the spines, pierce into the human body, releasing peptide toxins, which is the way jellyfish protect themselves.

When the person rips off the tentacles, it still sticks to the wound and continues to release poison. Whether jellyfish are alive or dead, or even split into pieces and washed onto the beach by the waves, their tentacles can sting people. When people swim and catch the sea, they should pay attention to the "red rope" in this kind of water, and must not directly push or catch jellyfish with their hands, and try to avoid walking. It is recommended that when the jellyfish are flourishing from August to September, pay attention to personal protection when playing at the beach, and do not expose your arms and legs directly in the seawater, so as not to directly touch the tentacles dropped by the jellyfish or jellyfish. Parents should do a good job of safety education for their children, do not let curious children use jellyfish as a toy, it is not something that can be used casually.

B.

Once stung, do not flush the wound with fresh water

When you are rushing or swimming in the sea, if you feel that your skin has unexplained tingling and itching, you must be vigilant whether you have been attacked by jellyfish, stop playing, and immediately observe whether your skin has symptoms such as strips or flaky rashes.

If symptoms such as allergies are found, do not rinse the wound with fresh water, as this will encourage jellyfish tentacles left on the skin to continue to release venom. It can be wiped with a towel, clothing, or sediment to remove tentacles or venom that stick to the skin, and cannot be wiped directly by hand, but can be rinsed with seawater. If possible, the affected area can be rinsed or sprayed with alcohol or an alkaline solution, or coldly applied with 10% sodium bicarbonate solution (baking soda) or alum water, which can remove the stinging cells that remain on the skin that have not yet radiated venom, which can significantly reduce the symptoms of stings.

After emergency treatment, we must carefully observe, if the symptoms have not been relieved, or have appeared nausea, vomiting, chest tightness and other symptoms, to seek medical treatment as soon as possible, for formal treatment. For a period of time after being stung, it is necessary to pay close attention to skin changes, and once an allergic reaction occurs again, it is necessary to seek medical treatment in time so as not to delay treatment.
