Matthew Lien, a well-known international environmental musician!

Born in San Diego, Southern California, his mother insisted on cultivating Matthew's musical talents——— she bought a piano for her son and brought music into Matthew's life. The mother's nurturing allowed Matthew to gradually master musical skills, while his father influenced Matthew's future musical direction.

Matthew Lane

When Matthew was five years old, his father decided to leave the busy city life of San Diego and move to the Yukon region of Canada. At the age of seven, his mother and he traveled to Yukon for the first time and spent the summer with their father, who lived there. They flew to Seattle, then took a four-day boat ride through the Alaskan Mountains, up the rugged Pacific coast full of whales and condors, and finally reached a seaside village called Hans, in Alaska. Matthew's father met them there. They then drove 250 kilometers through the mountains into the Yukon, on a road full of sand and dust. There are no small towns and no people there. They finally arrived at the Forest Lodge, a paradise for people.

And this experience changed Matthew's view of what true wilderness nature is. When he returned to school in California, he truly saw how humans treated the earth. And this also influenced one of his later creative directions - calling on human beings to protect the earth.

The song "Bressanone" was written when he was in his 20s. He was on a train leaving the small town of Bressanone in northern Italy. Bressanone was his mother's hometown, so he had a deep affection for the land. And behind this song is actually his own love story. He fell madly in love with a woman, but had to leave her for other reasons. At the parting station, he seemed to hear the melody of the song in his dream. Its long and sad melody, picturesque lyrics, clear and mellow singing, and the sound of train tracks at the end of the song often make the listener revel in the sad and pure world created by the song.

The real greatness of Matthew Lane is not in the creation of what is considered the saddest song in the world, but in the music he has created for the protection of the earth.

Brave New World was released in 2000. It is Matthew's open music horizon, carefully composed global village album, "Mother of the Earth" a song to invite the "Lion King" four African singers to sing, "Tikal" Inca music is full of mysterious ancient civilization atmosphere, "High Screen Beautiful Land" integrates Bunun, Nan zou tribal vocals and Celtic music style, sketching the magnificent landscape of Gaoping Creek Valley, the entire music pattern spans four continents, and invites hundreds of musicians in the international music scene to perform together. It can be said that it is the first album in the history of music to be created for the ecology of the earth, and it is also a musical love letter written by Matthew to the beautiful earth and all life!

In 1992, Matthew Lane and Ken Madsen had just completed a successful performance on the combination of Arctic eco-photography and music. Ten years later, Matthew once again went deeper into the "1002 Land", known as the "reindeer's last habitat". On the shores of the Arctic Sea, under the protection of the mountains, Matthew got the power of nature and began to create the "Arctic" ecological music album. He hoped to use the power of music to infuse the Arctic Heart into his blood and transmit it to every corner of the earth. Because the Arctic reserve has always been Matthew's greatest comfort. This mood is also presented in the Arctic album and the different musical styles of the past, in addition to the well-known: Matthew Lane's Gurt music, this time there are more blues souls, western countryside and European soft rock and other diverse faces.

To ensure the integrity of the music, Matthew also invited some of The best musicians in North America: David Sinclair, Ed Henderson, Tom Keenlyside and others to record along. The dozens of natural sound effects on the album, such as: cetaceans, reindeer, diving birds, etc., are all precious field sounds that Matthew recorded six times in the Arctic in 10 years.
