On April 30, 1948, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "May Day Slogan" to the whole country, kicking off the prelude to the establishment of a nation through democratic consultation. Dandong City is an important stop and historical witness for many democrats to "go north" to negotiate the establishment of the country, and to this day, it still leaves a precious red mark here.
The second group of democrats from the north took a group photo after landing
This photograph records a past event from more than 70 years ago, the figures in the photo are Guo Moruo, Ma Sulun, Xu Guangping democrats, the photo was taken by Lu Xun's son Zhou Haiying, and the shooting location was Dandong Langtou Port, the former site of Andong Erdaogou. It was from this location that democrats made their way north. At the end of 1948, more than 30 people, including Guo Moruo, Ma Sulun, Xu Guangping, and Zhai Bozan, took a boat in Hong Kong to "go north" and embarked on an unusual long journey. There is a poem written by Guo Moruo at that time: "The yalu river looks at the head, and the chimney is as muddy as a forest." At that time, democrats entered Andong by boat from the mouth of the Yalu River. Guo Moruomo entered the wave head, saw the industrial area of Dandong, and felt inspired, so he wrote this poem.
Guo Moruo, Ma Sulun, Xu Guangping, and other democrats traveled thousands of miles to the north by boat, where was the destination? Nine months later, the grand gathering of Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai unveiled the mystery. On April 30, 1948, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "May Day Slogan" to the whole country, openly calling for the speedy convening of a political consultative conference to discuss and realize the convening of a people's congress and the establishment of a democratic coalition government. Many well-known democrats, represented by Ma Sulun of the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy and Guo Moruo, a non-partisan figure, responded positively and secretly sailed from Hong Kong to "go north," which not only promoted the successful convening of the First Political Consultative Conference in 1949, announced the birth of the People's Republic of China, and also marked the initial formation of the status of China's democratic parties participating in political parties.
At that time, the democrats went north in secret, leaving no historical materials, and we are now excavating and sorting out this period of history, reproducing the process of democrats going north to convene a CPPCC meeting to negotiate the founding of the country, which is of extremely important value for filling the gap in the historical materials of the north and fully excavating and utilizing the precious and red cultural resources of Dandong and even Liaoning.
The CppcC Municipal Committee set up a special research group on "Democrats Going North through Dan" to systematically collect, excavate, sort out and study relevant historical facts in order to fully reproduce the turning point of this history and display and disclose a large number of little-known historical details. According to historical records, Guo Moruo, Ma Sulun, Xu Guangping, and other democrats sailed north through Dan on the evening of December 3, 1948, from Wangjiadao to Andong, and arrived at Dadonggou at midnight to anchor. On the morning of December 4, Lu Qi'en, then secretary of the Andong Municipal Party Committee, led a team to take democrats to land on a small passenger ship in the port. On December 5th, go to the Five Dragon Back Bath. On the morning of December 6, he arrived in Shenyang.
After landing on the waves, the democrats, accompanied by the leaders of the Andong Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, took a group photo to commemorate the occasion, then toured the downtown area of Andong, visited the Yalu River Bridge, and then went to Wulongbei to wash the hot springs, rested, and finally arrived in Shenyang under the escort of the Andong Municipal Government.

In the Zhen'an District Wulongbei Hot Spring Sanatorium, there is a building called WulongGe, which was the stop place of the democrats who went north, and when the democrats went north through Andong, they washed the hot springs and rested here, when Mr. Guo Moruo had a feeling and wrote two poems to express the happy mood of arriving in the Northeast Liberated Area.
According to historical records, our city has a unique position in the "northward movement" of democrats. At that time, when democrats went north, three groups passed through Dandong, with many batches, a large number of people, and many leaders. Among the nine leaders of the democratic parties and representatives of non-party personages, there were four non-party personages, Guo Moruo, a person without party affiliation, Ma Sulun, chairman of the China Democratic Progressive Party, Chen Qiyou, chairman of the Zhi Gong Party, and Xie Xuehong, chairman of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.
On September 21, 1949, the first plenary session of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference was held in Beiping, and the participants of this meeting were various democratic parties, groups, non-party democrats and specially invited representatives, and the democrats who "went north" through Dandong also appeared at this venue.
