"The preference for modeling, the fascination with oil painting, and the integration into my life are also a long process." Zhao Dajun said. He created the "Sacred Mountain" series after the age of 60. From 2000 to 2008, for eight years, Zhao Dajun interrupted the creation of oil paintings. "After that, I started making friends with nature more and deeper. Later, he traveled with friends, west Sichuan, northern Yunnan, southeastern Tibet... Again and again, I searched for traces of the sacred mountain. Zhao Dajun said, "This is a process of 'breaking yourself' and 'breaking yourself', mainly asking: What is art for?" What is the relationship between life and art? After painting a large number of works, I found that this large pile played an important role in the subsequent 'awakening'. ”

Zhao Dajun, who returned to the field of oil painting creation again, said: "Returning to life and emotion itself is a very natural process, and in the final analysis, it is a problem of 'people'. This experience made me simple and simple. Doing as I please gradually dominated my creative practice. ”

"Painting can unleash creativity, which is so appealing to me. I even dream at night about how to draw a painting. Wang Jieyin said.

Wang Jieyin's paintings have elements common to Both East and West. "The impact of East and West on me has been two-way. After I went abroad, I watched foreign modern and contemporary art at close range, and I had a more intuitive understanding of the West; at the same time, I looked at Chinese culture from a distance, I felt that Chinese culture was too precious, but I had a deeper understanding of China's traditional culture. Wang Jieyin said bluntly: "As a Chinese artist, it is beyond reproach to create a very 'Western' painting." Of course, he can also be very 'Chinese', and the national genes in his bones flow freely. ”

It is worth mentioning that Zhao Dajun has lived and created in Shenyang, northeast China, for a long time, while Wang Jieyin has been living and creating in Shanghai, Jiangnan. The transformation of the complex era background experienced by the water and humanities in the north and south, and the long artistic life, has laid a thick and vast background for their painting art, and has also formed a different painting temperament.

This double solo exhibition, from the perspective of retrospection, unfolds their artistic creation journey in the same venue, exhibiting representative paintings from different periods in their artistic careers, which not only achieves the meaning of contrasting and reflecting each other, but also provides a reference for studying their painting practice and thus studying the development of Modern and Contemporary Chinese painting and the construction of local values.

"The theme words 'Han Bai' and 'Jiang Sheng' in the exhibition are taken from the names of the recent works of Zhao Dajun and Wang Jieyin." Curator Jiang Mei introduced that "Han Bai" and "Jiang Sheng", respectively, are put into visual and auditory senses, with the rich connotation of classical Chinese aesthetics, and are words that point to the sensory experience and aesthetic emotions of Chinese.

This double solo exhibition specially invited Shen Haopeng, a well-known designer in Shanghai, to serve as a visual designer, and carried out ingenious design and layout in space, so that the exhibition not only maintains independent and distinct personal clues, but also reflects the mutual reflection and dialogue between the two artists' creation.

The exhibition will run until November 25, 2021.
