The founding fathers of the United States were condemned for slavery and enacted a policy of racial cleansing The statue will be removed from New York City

The statue of Thomas Jefferson was removed by New York City Hall

Overseas network on October 19, local time on Monday (18th), after the New York City Committee voted, a statue of the founding father of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, which stands at New York City Hall, will be removed. In the aftermath of Freud, groups worked to remove statues of former U.S. presidents who had been heavily enslaved.

According to NBC, the mayor of New York said he understood Jefferson's history as a slave owner "deeply troubled people and why people thought the situation could not be ignored." The mayor of the city council wrote to the mayor in the summer of 2020, taking the lead in demanding that the statue be removed. "There is a disturbing racist image in our city," the letter said, and he and black, Hispanic, and Asian members of the city council considered the statue "inappropriate" to be erected here. Inez Barron, a member of the city committee, supported the removal of the statue, saying the slave owner had acted as some sort of "broker" and took the opportunity to expand the plantation slave economy. She also said that during his tenure, Jefferson promulgated a number of expulsion policies against Native Americans, which led to the evil consequences of "ethnic cleansing and genocide and replacement" of Indigenous peoples.

It is understood that Thomas Jefferson is the third President of the United States, but also the main drafter of the United States Declaration of Independence, and one of the most influential people in the Founding Fathers of the United States. Records show that Jefferson had more than 650 slaves during his lifetime, some of them inherited from his parents and wives, and many of them were "assets" withheld because of creditor's rights. While he openly professed his belief that slavery was inhumane and would eventually disappear, he continued to keep slaves and was criticized as hypocritical. (Overseas Network Hou Xingchuan)
