After graduating from university in 2010, Lai Xuanzhi, who was born in a remote rural area, came to teach at qixing primary school in a mountain primary school dominated by left-behind children and migrant workers, becoming the first professional physical education teacher in this rural primary school and also began to have a relationship with "one rope".
The school has poor operating conditions, and sports venues and sports equipment are very scarce. In order to let the children have a better sports field, Lai Xuanzhi picked up the hoe every day after school and went to level the school's athletic field; in order to let the students have the sports equipment for learning and training, Lai Xuanzhi personally went to do sports equipment and repair damaged sports equipment every day as soon as he had free time, so he was also jokingly called "the school's logistics minister" by his colleagues.
In the face of the school's development dilemma, but also in order for children to exercise and grow up happily, this post-80s young teacher does not accept defeat and does not give up, he firmly believes that through physical education can change the status quo of the school and change the fate of children. In 2012, Lai Xuanzhi established a school jump rope team based on the school conditions of Seven Star Primary School and the low requirements for equipment and venues for skipping rope, and took skipping rope as a key development project of school sports.
As the only teacher of undergraduate physical education major in the school at that time, Lai Xuanzhi "started from scratch", chose jump rope teaching as a breakthrough, learned jump rope first, and then taught students to jump, immersed himself in research, repeated experiments, and strived to promote the jump rope sports of Qixing Primary School from scratch, leading the children to use their spare time to train, jumping from the small playground in the countryside to the world stage, picking gold and silver for China, creating the myth of "the world jump rope dream team", successfully exploring the way of physical education teaching in mountainous areas, known as " China Speed, Seven Star Miracle".
A rope "supports" the confidence of rural children
As a basketball professional physical education teacher, to teach jump rope, you must first learn to jump rope.
As a person who has never been exposed to professional jump rope training, he plunged into the study of jump rope, collected jump rope competition videos everywhere, studied seriously, in order to learn an action, a video, he repeatedly watched hundreds of times, repeatedly observed the exercise, learned to stop, and even went to sleep and dreamed at night to think about how to jump rope. After studying thousands of videos at home and abroad, he explored a set of jump rope teaching methods that are suitable for getting rid of complex essentials and suitable for the actual situation. After he understood the essentials of jump rope learning, he began to improve from the jump rope tools and postures, constantly innovated, and after 2 years of exploration, finally studied the "unique secret skill" - semi-squat jumping method.
Since then, the seeds of children's dreams have been ignited by this small jump rope, and they cannot be harvested at once.
Since 2013, with the unity and joint efforts of teachers and students, the jump rope team of Qixing Primary School led by Lai Xuanzhi has gradually emerged in various jump rope competitions, holding the jump rope championship trophy all the way forward, and has trained 33 world jump rope champions such as "Lightspeed Teenager" Cen Xiaolin, "World Jump Rope Master" Zhang Chongyang and Wei Xingqin, breaking 11 world jump rope records, winning more than 800 medals and more than 400 gold medals.
Lai Xuanzhi himself was awarded the title of "National Outstanding Coach of Jump Rope" by the Social Sports Center of the State General Administration of Sport for 8 consecutive years, "Advanced Individual in Mass Sports" by the State General Administration of Sport in August 2017, "National Outstanding Teacher" by the Ministry of Education in September 2019, "Good Man of China" by the Central Civilization Office in January 2020, the 20th "National Youth Post Expert" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League in July 2020, and the "National May Day Labor Medal" by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions in April 2021.
In 2018, Lai Xuanzhi, as one of the first teachers sent from China to Panama to support teaching, promoted the campus jump rope sport in local schools and guided students to train the jump rope performance team. At the same time, the jump rope team of Qixing Primary School was also invited to participate in the "Belt and Road" company China-Pakistan Panama City jump rope display activity, a rope to tie the friendship between China and Pakistan.

From a "naughty student" to a national moral model
At the pick-up site at noon on the 6th, there were two special students, they were children from the sixth grade of Qixing Primary School, and Lai Xuanzhi was both a "father teacher" and a "big brother" in their eyes.

The jump rope team members are mainly the children of farmers from the Buyi ethnic group in Guizhou and the farmers who grow vegetables in Guangzhou, Henan and Sichuan. Due to the poverty of their families, these children lack the love of their parents, have a relatively introverted and inferior personality, and their academic performance is not ideal.
"Naughty student" is not a label for children. In Lai Xuanzhi's view, the children of Seven Star Primary School are full of infinite possibilities. "Why jump rope? When children have this sense of success, they have self-confidence. Once there is self-confidence, the child has a chance. Lai Xuanzhi said, "It's not that all children are very good at reading, everyone has different advantages, if you can tap the children's shining points in sports, then this child is also expected in the future." I think that's what we're going to do. ”
When the world skipping rope champion Cen Xiaolin just transferred to Seven Star Primary School, the score of the Chinese teaching test was only more than 20 points, but when he won the world championship, his self-confidence was fully improved, and his grades improved from the original class to the top few in the class. The transformation of these children encourages the teachers of the whole school, gives them hope, and lets these peasant parents see the future of their children.
Every day when he returned to school, he would bring back some small gifts and snacks for the children, and greet the children with greetings. Whenever a student is sick and parents have no time for school, he always pays for students to see a doctor; whenever he encounters a student who has no timely pick-up and drop-off because his parents go to work, he always takes the initiative to escort the students home; every time he leads the students out to participate in the competition, when he encounters the phenomenon of individual students getting sick and fever due to not adapting to the local climate and diet, he always takes the students to the hospital to see a doctor without complaint, often until more than 3 o'clock in the morning to return to the hotel to rest, only to sleep for more than two hours and then get up to guide the game... In 2019, the touching stories of Lai Xuanzhi and his students were filmed as a documentary and a children's inspirational film "A Little Starlight". The film was named "Primary School Students' Favorite Children's Film" at the 2019 China International Children's Film Festival. Since then, the film has been promoted to the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Canada, India and other 7 countries around the world for screening, and has been shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 23rd Montreal International Children's Film Festival (fifem), the 60th Czech Zlin International Film Festival, and won the Best Children's Film Award at the 33rd Golden Rooster Awards of Chinese Film.
From one rope to one hundred thousand ropes
A single flower is not spring, a hundred flowers bloom in the spring and fill the garden. When Lai Xuanzhi shined in his own education life, he did not stop moving forward, and he set his sights on the distance.
He actively responded to the call of the government and the education authorities, shared experience, sent teaching across schools, radiated and driven, and made every effort to build a regional education brand. In recent years, with the strong support of the education authorities, Lai Xuanzhi has actively engaged in the promotion of skipping rope sports and vigorously promoted the development of skipping rope sports in brother schools.
Since 2013, it has been entrusted by the town, district, municipal and national education guidance departments and sports departments for many times to train physical education teachers hundreds of times, and the number of trainings has reached more than 20,000 people. Lai Xuanzhi has been invited to more than 100 schools to display and teach the achievements of jump rope teaching, with tens of thousands of teachers and students participating, and guiding many schools to participate in various jump rope competitions and obtain excellent results. Guided Xixian Primary School in Conghua District to win the first place in the overall team score of the district jump rope competition, the sixth place in the municipal competition, and the good result of 12 gold in the 2016 National Jump Rope League; guided the Beixing Primary School in Huadong Town, Huadu District to participate in the 2015 National Jump Rope Championship held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, and won 21 gold medals, 10 silver medals, 14 bronze medals, 2 second places in collective projects, and 2 trophies... Lai Xuanzhi said that at present, they are promoting a public welfare undertaking and hope to use the strength of all sectors of society to strive to bring more children from rural schools to participate. "We want to raise 100,000 jump ropes, send them to rural schools everywhere, and then teach children to jump rope." There are already nearly 20,000 of them, and we are continuing to work on them. ”
After several years of exploration, Lai Xuanzhi said that it is not easy to do a good job, at the same time, he also suggested that more rural teachers do the same sports characteristics, do a good job of other school characteristics, as long as they persist, overcome difficulties can enjoy the joy of success. "I hope that what I will do in the future will not be so 'small', and I hope to be able to hold more public welfare activities to drive more schools and more teachers to participate."
