Xiahou Yuan, a super general in the early Three Kingdoms and a confidant of Cao Cao, made great achievements in the Southern Expedition and the Northern War, which can be summed up as "Tiger Step Pass Right"; but in the Battle of Dingjun Mountain, the freak of Fa zheng in Shu was cut in two by Lao Huang Zhong.
Xiahou Yuan had four sons, namely Xiahou Ba, Xiahou Wei, Xiahou Hui, and Xiahou He, and these four sons of Xiahou Yuan were all very capable, and each of them made great contributions, known as Xiahou Sijie. What I want to talk about here is the most famous Xiahou Ba in the "Xiahou Four Jie".
After Xiahou Yuan was beheaded by the Shu Han general Huang Zhong in a battle with the Shu Han army at the Battle of Dingjun Mountain, Xiahou Ba often gritted his teeth and was determined to avenge his father Xiahou Yuan. He studied diligently and read hard military books, and later served as a partial general.
In 239, the Wei Ming emperor Cao Ruituo was left alone with Cao Shuang and Sima Yi, and Xiahou Ba was used heavily by Cao Shuang. In 244, the Wei emperor Cao Fang appointed Xiahou Ba as the Protector of Shu and the Right General, and made him the Marquis of Bochangting, and made him an army of Longxi. Xiahou Ba trained troops in Longxi and improved the wei state's relations with the local ethnic minorities, and won the support of the ethnic minorities. In the same year, Xiahou Ba replaced Xiahou Ru as the protector of The Shu Dynasty, which was under the command of the general Zhengxi.
In 249, Sima Yi staged a coup d'état and killed cao Shuang, the general who had previously held power in the State of Wei, and Cao Shuang's cousin Xiahou Xuan,Xiahou Xuan (夏侯玄), who was the nephew of Xiahou Batang (夏侯霸堂) and the general Xiahou Xuan (夏侯玄), was recalled from the front to the capital by Sima Yi and given guo Huai his place. Xiahou Bapingsu was at odds with Guo Huai, believing that this would inevitably plague him, and was very afraid, so he fled into Shu Han and lost his way in Yinping, where he was trapped in food. When Shu Han learned of this, he sent someone to greet Xiahou Ba.
In 200, Xiahou Ba's cousin Xiahou Shi was discovered by Zhang Fei, a major chancellor of the Shu Han Dynasty, when she was out collecting firewood, and Zhang Fei married him and gave birth to two sons and two daughters; the daughter born became the empress of the later lord Liu Chan. Therefore, when summoning Xiahou Ba, Liu Chan comforted him and said, "Your father was killed in battle, not by my ancestors." He also pointed to his son and said, "This is also Xiahou's nephew." Xiahou Ba was then reused in Shu Han and was appointed as a cheqi general.
After Xiahou Ba surrendered to Shu Han, the Shu Han general Jiang Wei asked Xiahou Ba, "Since Sima Yi has already controlled the government of the State of Wei, do you think he will have any attempts to conquer other countries?" Xiahou Ba said: "He is running and sorting out internal affairs, and he is not yet concerned about external conquest." However, there was a man named Zhong Hui, although he was young, and if he managed the government, it would be a worry for both Wu and Shu. ”
Since then, Xiahou Ba has participated in Jiang Wei's wars against the State of Wei many times. In 255, Sima Shi of the Wei state of Bingzheng died of illness, and Jiang Wei took the opportunity to lead tens of thousands of people out of Di Dao with Xiahou Ba, the general Zhang Yi of Zhengxi, and others to divide the army into three ways to attack the State of Wei, and defeated the Wei state of Yongzhou in Taoxi to assassinate Wang Jing, and Wang Jingbu killed tens of thousands of people. Wang Jing retreated to Di Dao City, Jiang Wei marched on Di Dao City, and the Wei general Chen Tai sent troops to relieve the siege, so Jiang Wei withdrew and garrisoned Zhong Ti.
In the main history, Xiahou Ba was already more than sixty years old when he defected to Shu Han, and according to research, Xiahou Ba lived for more than seventy years and died a good death.
The novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms adapts Xiahou Ba as Xiahou Yuan's eldest son rather than second son. Xiahou Ba's bow horse was skilled, and the heart and abdomen of Cao Shuang's promotion were repeatedly defended against the invasion of Shu Han. During the conquest of Gongsun Yuan of Liaodong Province, in less than a few rounds, the Liaodong general Beiyan was cut down, and the Liaodong army was in chaos. Later, Sima Yi staged a coup d'état, Cao Shuang was killed, Xiahou Xuan was transferred, and Xiahou Ba, seeing Sima Yi's ambitions, rebelled, but was defeated by Guo Huai.
Cornered, Xiahou Ba was already an elderly general when he surrendered to Shu. Xiahou Ba, who followed Jiang Wei on his Northern Expedition during the Shu Dynasty, defeated Guo Huai in less than ten rounds to rescue Jiang Wei, but was eventually shot and killed in an ambush by Deng Ai at the Battle of Taoyang.
Later generations have poems that sigh: "Bold Jiang Weimiao is long, who knows Deng Ai is secretly wary." Poor Xiahou Ba, who threw himself into Han, was killed by an arrow on the edge of the city in an instant. ”
