Hu Yaobang (November 20, 1915 – April 15, 1989), a native of Liuyang, Hunan Province, served as Secretary General of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, Chairman of the CPC Central Committee, and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. He resigned in 1987 for his weak opposition to bourgeois liberalization. He died on April 15, 1989.
