指示代词
(1)指示代词起指示作用或代替前面提及的名词。常用的指示代词有this, that, these, those, such, same等。它们在句中可作主语、宾语、表语或定语。如:
This is a desk. (主语)
We should always keep these in mind. (宾语)
My idea is this. (表语)
We are not talking about the same thing. (定语)
(2)前面提到的东西或情况，常用that, those表示; this, these可用来指下文提到的东西或情况。如：
We have no time to do it. That's our problem.
What I want to say is this.
(3)有时为了避免重复提到的名词，常用that或those来代替。如：
The life in Korea is different from that in the US. (that代替the life)
The houses of the rich are larger than those of the poor. (those代替the houses)
(4)在打电话时，常用this来介绍自己，用that问对方。如：
This is Doris. Who is calling please?
(5) this和that有时可表示“程度”，作状语。如：
Can hard work change a person that much?
He is now about this tall.
