He was a traitor who betrayed the CCP and held major secrets of the organization, but when he stood in the hostile camp, he did not say anything about this confidential document, some people said that he was for his own interests, and some people said that he put the confidential document in the hands of his family, hoping to save his family's life.
What the facts are, it is now impossible to examine, as latecomers, we can only guess Gu Shunzhang's intentions from between the lines of history.
So, what is Gu Shunzhang's story?

Gu Shunzhang was born in Baoshan, Shanghai in 1904. In the past years, he was a small gangster who wandered the streets, joined the Green Gang, dared to fight and kill, and was fierce and abnormal.
After entering the Nanyang Tobacco Factory, he even rose to prominence among the workers with a lot of hard work and won the favor of the CCP leadership. In 1924, Gu Shunzhang joined the CCP.
The following year, due to his ability and performance, he was sent by the leaders of the organization to serve as a temporary bodyguard at the side of the Soviet adviser Borodin.
In 1926, Gu Shunzhang, together with Chen Geng and others, went to the Soviet Union to learn "political defense". His learning talent is indeed quite high, and it only takes a short time to master a series of special skills, such as psychology, mechanical repair and operation, magic and makeup.
Gu Shunzhang's marksmanship is also particularly powerful, he can hold a gun with both hands at the same time, and can also ensure that the indoor gunfire cannot be transmitted outdoors, and the unarmed killing does not leave any trace. The world called him an "all-powerful agent" and believed that no one in this field could surpass Gu Shunzhang.
In 1927, Gu Shunzhang returned from his studies and served as the commander-in-chief of the armed pickets in the Shanghai Workers' Uprising. In the same year, because of his outstanding achievements, Premier Zhou personally selected Gu Shunzhang as the head of the CCP's Special Section and Operations Section, mainly responsible for suppressing secret agents.
Under the leadership of Gu Shunzhang, the Operations Section gradually became "active", not only arresting many spies, but also shocking the enemy with vigorous means, making them tremble when they heard the names of Gu Shunzhang and the Operations Section.
However, what people did not expect was that as the status slowly increased, the "bad elements" hidden in Gu Shunzhang's bones gradually appeared.
He began to sink in the "wind and snow moon", pursuing "eating, drinking, gambling" and other five poisonous "entertainment pastimes". Chen Geng, who had a "classmate friendship" with him, said to others: "Maybe one day, we will be able to witness Gu Shunzhang's rebellion." ”
Chen Geng became a slur, and Gu Shunzhang's rebellion also had a certain relationship with him. Seeing that they could not stop Gu Shunzhang's absurdity, the central leaders had the idea of replacing Gu Shunzhang, and the object of replacement was Chen Geng.
When Gu Shunzhang heard this news by chance, he was very annoyed and had the idea of rebellion in his heart. In 1931, Gu Shunzhang was ordered to escort Zhang Guotao and others to the Eyu-Anhui Su District, stopping in Wuhan for more than a month on the way back, and then unexpectedly met the traitor Wang Zhuqiao in Hankou.
Wang Zhuqiao recognized the "old colleague" and quietly followed Gu Shunzhang to his residence, and reported the matter to the organization. That night, Gu Shunzhang was arrested by the enemy. Without waiting for the enemy to coerce and induce and torture, Gu Shunzhang, who had long had the intention of rebellion, took the initiative to "surrender," which surprised the enemy incomparably.
In order to show his "sincerity", Gu Shunzhang provided the enemy with more than 20 secret strongholds set up by the CCP organization in the Wuhan area, causing all the members of the CCP in Wuhan to suffer without exception.
At the same time, Gu Shunzhang asked to see Chiang Kai-shek on the grounds that the CCP was hiding in the undercover list within the Kuomintang. He instructed the agents not to send a telegram to Nanjing in advance, but the "sinister plan" was sabotaged by He Chengjun, which made Gu Shunzhang very sorry and constantly sighed: "I can't catch Zhou Enlai!" ”
The mutinous Gu Shunzhang did not take into account his wives, children, and relatives who were still within the CCP organization.
When Premier Zhou moved the CCP's organizational stronghold, gu shunzhang's wife was unwilling to evacuate with the ccp, so he had to explain to Hong Yangsheng and other people who had no personal relations with Gu Shunzhang to secretly execute 9 adults of the Gu clan, and sent Gu Shunzhang's 8-year-old daughter to a welfare home and his 12-year-old brother-in-law to be safely released home.

Chairman Mao and others saw that Gu Shunzhang's harm was really enormous, so they issued a special "wanted order" to Gu Shunzhang. Around 1935, Gu Shunzhang, who was supposed to "call the wind and rain," was "punished" by the Kuomintang for his wanton arrogance and gradually disappeared from the front of the people.
3 or 4 years later, the party of his death was discovered. There have been many opinions about Gu Shunzhang's pre-death affairs, including some things after his rebellion.
Among them, the most puzzling thing is that Gu Shunzhang did not confide in the "enemy" the CCP's "Secret Document No. 1." These documents contain most of the important information of the CCP organization from the beginning of the founding of the party, and are the "top priority" in the CCP's document library.
After Premier Zhou learned of Gu Shunzhang's defection, he immediately transferred the complete backup to another place, so as to prevent Gu Shunzhang from revealing the "truth" and causing even greater losses to the CCP organization.
But Premier Zhou waited and waited until Gu Shunzhang died, and this confidential document still did not appear on the Kuomintang table. The world can't figure out why Gu Shunzhang, who was supposed to "hate" the CCP organization, did not use this confidential document to "put the CCP organization to death".
Some people say that it was because Gu Shunzhang hid this confidential document in his father-in-law's house in advance, and in order not to involve his father-in-law and others, he also secretly asked someone to burn the documents; others said that Gu Shunzhang regarded the confidential documents as a trump card and planned to exchange it for something, but he did not show his mouth, and he was already killed.
Of course, no matter what Gu Shunzhang's true intentions are, one thing cannot be denied, that is, his selfishness. Gu Shunzhang's "big cake" of "Confidential Document No. 1" has absolutely nothing to do with his "good thoughts" about the CCP organization.
In addition, the cause of Gu Shunzhang's death is also permeated with a mysterious feeling.
An agent named Xu Enzeng claimed in a memoir that "Gu Shunzhang's self-surrender was his proud work", that he had worked with Gu Shunzhang, and that Gu Shunzhang's "joining" had suddenly made the Kuomintang's "underground record" "brilliant".
But he especially regretted that Gu Shunzhang could not "cooperate with him to the end". He said that some time after the "transformation," Gu Shunzhang "colluded" with the CCP again in order to find his way out in politics.
Not only did he disclose documents within the Kuomintang to the CCP organization, but he also planned to carry out an assassination plan and then flee to the CCP region in Jiangxi. Because they learned of Gu Shunzhang's "two hearts," the Kuomintang organization had to "bear the pain" of giving up on Gu Shunzhang.
Gu Shunzhang's former personal bodyguard said that Gu Shunzhang's death was due to his conspiracy with a man named Jiang Yun to form a new Communist Party.
Gu Shunzhang held that although the Communist Party organization is not good, the Kuomintang is even more "bad"; the Communist Party is "good" in some cadres, who have good conduct, can bear hardships and stand hard work, and have a revolutionary heart.
Therefore, Gu Shunzhang attempted to use the Kuomintang Secret Service Section to "eliminate" the Communist Party organization and re-establish a new Communist Party organization. Unexpectedly, his plan was detected by the Kuomintang, which brought him the misfortune of killing himself.
Half a century after Gu Shunzhang's death, another person who had been inside the Central Unification said that Gu Shunzhang's death was strongly related to his popularity.
Gu Shunzhang was never a mediocre talent, and his ability allowed him to be recognized and valued by the military command, and gave him very high treatment. But Gu Shunzhang was reluctant to accept the affection, insisting that the secretary was the one who had ulterior motives to spy on him. He was eager to form his own forces and wanted to win Lin Jinsheng over, but instead he was "betrayed" by Lin Jinsheng and "executed" by the Kuomintang.

Originally, before Gu Shunzhang's defection, the basic line of the CCP organization was to act as the vanguard of the working class along "Marxism", gain a foothold in the cities, and regard the launching of the workers' movement as its duty.
On the contrary, Gu Shunzhang, who held the SECRETs of the CPC, defected, coupled with the "left-leaning" incident that happened to "meet", which caused the workers' movement to be suppressed by a series of blows, and the CCP organization was seriously injured and had to move to the countryside to find another "way out."
At present, we cannot speculate on what the "future" of the CCP organization would have become without Gu Shunzhang's rebellion, but it is undeniable that Gu Shunzhang is indeed a person who has committed "the most heinous crimes", and he is ashamed of the cultivation of the CCP organization and has betrayed the trust and trust of the organization.
In his story, we can understand several truths:
