Boss is coming 丨 Zhou Bing: Digital transformation Depends more on traditional enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises

Sichuan online reporter Zhang Yuxi

It is not an exaggeration to say that Dale is an old friend of Sichuan and Chengdu.

During the 2013 Chengdu Fortune Global Forum, Dell's Chengdu factory was officially put into operation, and Dell founder Mike Dell, who came to the Fortune Forum, attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon; in the same year, the first Rong-Europe Express railway from Chengdu, Sichuan to Lodz, Poland, was equipped with a "Chengdu Made" Dell computer.

Eight years later, when Zhou Bing, global vice president of Dell Technologies Group, came to Chengdu to participate in the symposium on investment and development of well-known enterprises in Sichuan, what new plans were brought? At the venue, Sichuan Online reporter conducted an exclusive interview with Zhou Bing.

Boss is coming 丨 Zhou Bing: Digital transformation Depends more on traditional enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises

Reporter: You once said that you are very optimistic about China's consumer goods market, what are Dell's plans to provide More and Better Products to Chinese consumers?

Zhou Bing: We insist that we are very optimistic about the Chinese market, and we have also observed three very important changes in the Chinese market. The first is that the demand for personalized products and high-end products is very strong. In fact, in Chengdu, we have opened a high-end product "alien" store in Taikoo Li, which is the first in the country, and the effect is very good. In the next step, we will introduce more high-end products into the Chinese market.

Second, we have noticed a situation that due to the epidemic, more and more people are working from home, so we have developed a lot of products that are suitable for business and leisure.

The third direction is that after the "double carbon action" was proposed, the requirements for sustainable development in the Chinese market are very high. Our own goal is to achieve the same amount of products for every new item sold by 2030, with 50% of the product produced from recyclable or degradable materials. Now our 125 products in China have adopted closed-loop plastics.

Reporter: China's industrial Internet, Internet of Things and other fields, these years of rapid development, how does Dell think?

Zhou Bing: Since 2016, we have tracked 4,000 enterprises around the world and observed some of the changes in their digital transformation. We divide the company into categories such as leaders, followers, and spectators.

We publish the index every two years. It is clear that most companies in China are taking action, moving from watchers to actors, and more and more leaders are emerging.

During the epidemic, we also observed that all enterprises that have done a good job in digital transformation, such as some logistics, education, medical and other industries, have performed well during the epidemic. This also gives us a clear signal.

We did some analysis of the path and approach to digital transformation. First of all, China's digital transformation can not only look at the frontier industries, but also look at the digital transformation of traditional industries; second, digital transformation is not only a matter for large enterprises, but also for the transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises. Only when the digital transformation of traditional industries and small and medium-sized enterprises is completed can it be said that China's digital transformation has a big development.

Reporter: Dell set up a factory in Chengdu a long time ago. At the beginning of this year, Chengdu's electronic information industry exceeded one trillion yuan for the first time, how do you evaluate Chengdu's electronic information industry?

Zhou Bing: For the development of Chengdu's electronic information industry, we are witnesses. In just a few years, we've also gone up several steps. In this process, with the entry of leading companies like Dell into Chengdu, there is a good positive effect, the upstream industrial chain, including the panel industry, chip industry, etc., followed by the settlement, forming a better virtuous circle.

More important is some important infrastructure, especially logistics. The Rong-Europe railway has brought us a great opportunity for development, and Chengdu is now an important base for us to face Europe.

In the next step, the entire information technology industry will be more transformed into services and technology fields, so Chengdu's electronic information industry should develop in the direction of high-end and service, pay more attention to production-related service industries, and more and more product production design should be concentrated in Chengdu.

We are in close discussions with Chengdu to further strengthen our production base here and make it a production base that supports the entire Asia-Pacific market.
