According to the Municipal Sports Development Center, table tennis in Anshan began in the 1960s. In the 1960s, Chinese table tennis achieved great results in the World Table Tennis Championships, inspiring steel people to start paying attention to table tennis and loving table tennis, which was the embryonic era of Anshan table tennis. In 1988, Anshan was named the first batch of national table tennis key cities by the National Sports Commission. In 2005, Anshan City was once again named a national key table tennis unit by the State General Administration of Sports. Table tennis has become the most popular and widely participated in a sport in Anshan. From young children to elderly people, everyone holds a racket in the park and table tennis arena to play and fitness.
Wang Yidi, born in 1997, caught up with the good times when the city vigorously promoted table tennis. As a native of Anshan, Wang Yidi practiced table tennis in a strong ping-pong atmosphere and studied with Bai Xiaodong, the former head table tennis coach of Anshan Sports School and a national-level table tennis coach.
