When he was six years old, after his father changed careers, he came to Huocheng County, Ili, Xinjiang, as a county party cadre. Finally, I came to Xinjiang in the second year of junior high school, who knew that in the third year of junior high school, high school, and the two and a half years of going to the countryside to go to college, this stay was 24 and a half years.

For a long 24 years, these seemingly bland and tortuous experiences have benefited me for the rest of my life. After graduating from high school, I went to the countryside as a Zhiqing to the Galsu Brigade in Yiche Township, Ili Huocheng County, from a farmer to a brigade agricultural technician, although the life of Zhiqing for two and a half years was very hard, but it still made me learn a lot of things, and let me learn to cherish the present.

Studying biology at Xinjiang University was purely accidental, and I, who especially liked chemistry, was transferred to the biology major and began to study biology.

At first, I didn't even know what biology was about, but the experience made me realize that everything was the best arrangement. Here, I deeply understood this discipline, and began to be full of curiosity and infinite love for it, and continued this love to continue to the teaching position to continue to investigate.

After graduation, I came to Xinjiang Normal University to teach. During this period, in order to continue to learn his favorite professional knowledge, he also went to Fudan University genetics assistant class to study.

In 1995, I had the opportunity to teach at Zhejiang University, and I, a Native of Zhejiang, returned to my real hometown. However, my relationship with Xinjiang did not stop there.

Many of my research projects, including the first National Natural Science Foundation of China, are related to Xinjiang. Now, there are many students from Xinjiang in my laboratory, who work hard and never stop learning. After leaving Xinjiang for 10 years, I went to Kashgar Normal University (now Kashgar University) to teach at Zhejiang University's hand-in-hand college.

In order to broaden the students' horizons, I helped them open experimental classes and prepared their own experimental equipment and reagents from Zhejiang University, which is 4700 kilometers away from Kashgar, and did my best to impart knowledge and exchange teaching experience, and formed a deep friendship with the teachers and students of Kashgar Normal College. Almost every year, I go back to Xinjiang at least once, and I can say that I have never left Xinjiang.

It took more than 20 years to perfect one course

After coming to Zhejiang University, in addition to scientific research and training graduate students, I also devoted myself to teaching, turning the course "Introduction to Life Sciences" into a national high-quality course and a national high-quality resource sharing course, and building the team into a national-level teaching team.

As early as 1997, Zhejiang University opened the "Introduction to Life Sciences", a general education course for non-biological majors, and was one of the earliest schools in china to offer such general studies courses. At the beginning of the course, we encountered many problems: limited technical conditions that made the classroom presentation ineffective, no lessons to learn from, and insufficient understanding of the students' biological foundations. These problems make the imparting of life science knowledge either boring or overly simple and repetitive, and the teaching effect is not satisfactory. I am the person in charge of this course and one of the main speakers, and it is my obligation and responsibility to lead the members of the course teaching team to propose and solve problems.

On the basis of high school biology, the life science knowledge is taught, and the scientific, systematic, interdisciplinary and interesting teaching methods are combined with online and offline communication, so that more students have more diverse ways to understand and learn this course, and at the same time, they can also communicate with teachers to discuss the meaning of life science. Life sciences is a highly practical discipline, and experimental classes are of course essential. In order to let students understand and learn the knowledge of life science more deeply, we also created the corresponding general knowledge experiment course "Introduction to Life Science Experiment".

The esoteric scientific principles evolved into interesting experiments in order to make the life sciences take root in the hearts of the students. Interestingly, there have been a number of liberal arts students who have switched to biology through the general studies course of Introduction to Life Sciences. Most of these students, who switch from liberal arts to biological sciences, continue their studies and achieve success after graduation.

It can be said that this course allows some non-biological students to discover themselves, improve life science literacy and make the horizon broader.

Ignite the flame of education and illuminate the lives of students

Teaching career is inevitable to deal with all kinds of students, as a teacher to train students is the primary task, imparting students' knowledge at the same time to teach students to behave and do things. Scientific research work is to plant melons to get beans, plant beans to get melons, maintain curiosity and innovative thinking is the only companion of scientific research. I don't set limits on students, I just want them to do their best and be careful. There is a gap between people, and the same standard cannot be used to demand all students.

When I was the part-time director of the qiushi college of Zhejiang University, I noticed that some new students and even some student cadres could not handle the relationship between study and life, and some student cadres had the phenomenon of hanging up the subject or even withdrawing from school, and could not play a leading role among the students, so I began to worry for them. I think that the main business of students is learning, as student leaders, they must establish a good learning style among new students, so I put forward the requirement that the average GPA of student leaders and head of student clubs should not be less than 3.5, hoping that they will set an example for students and lead the construction of learning style.

During my time as a class teacher, I found that some students who had just left the warm haven of "home" suddenly became overwhelmed and fell into a confused predicament after coming to the university.

Some students even began to play games in the dormitory, chase dramas and abandon their studies, thus facing the pressure of dropping out of school. I would often go to the dormitories of "problematic" students before 8 a.m., pull them out of their beds, and urge them to go to class. I think the role of the teacher in guiding the new students is very important, and I have never given up on any student based on the principles of "no one can be less", "do not abandon any one", "pay special attention to the last third of the students". Although the withdrawal incident was not completely avoided, there were also some students who were able to "turn back" and correct their mentality and successfully complete their studies. Some of my classmates really couldn't continue to go up and down, so I had to persuade them to quit, so I also got the title of "brother who was dissuaded". Later, I received many letters from these classmates, and the letters were full of the true feelings of those students. To this day, I still have letters written by those students in my bookcase. With my consent, I also posted a letter written to me by a student who dropped out of school in 2012.

Later, I heard that this student retook the college entrance examination to complete his unfinished studies, which was not a regret in life.

I used to work part-time as a responsible professor of biology in the independent college of Zhejiang University, and there were 40 students enrolled in the first batch of biology majors that year, in order not to let them give up on themselves because of studying in three colleges, no longer discouraged by not going to the desired major, in order to let them find their own life direction faster, I often tell them some inspirational stories.

In the end, the class graduated with a 40% further education rate (at home and abroad), and the class leader crossed the examination to become a graduate student majoring in software engineering at Zhejiang University. Another student I often mention was admitted to my laboratory from Xinjiang Agricultural University majoring in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine. Before the graduate school, she contacted me and said that she wanted to apply for the graduate school of our microbiology laboratory, and I thought it was impossible, even if I was admitted to the future, it was unlikely to do well.

But unexpectedly, she was admitted with high scores, and in less than two years after entering the laboratory, she published a sci paper in a foreign professional journal, applied for the National Scholarship Program in the third year, and went to Harvard University for two years of joint training. After graduating with a Ph.D., she worked at one of the country's top oceanographic research institutes and became an outstanding researcher in the field. I also have many students who use their spare time to conduct experiments during the undergraduate srtp (undergraduate research training program) and then make up their minds to join our research group. The atmosphere in the research group is very good, like a real family, I think that mentoring and friends is the best way to get along with students.
