1. "They jump right in front of my eyes"

According to the latest catalogue data of the Parrot Ridge Branch Bureau, there are 510 species of animals in the tropical rainforest under its jurisdiction, and Fu Huiquan knows more than 300 of them, accounting for more than half of them.

"Before I became a ranger, I didn't know what kind of classification, and the people in the mountains collectively called the fish they didn't know in the water as gobies." Fu Huiquan is of medium stature, handsome in eyebrows, although he is thinner, he is extremely energetic, eating fast and walking fast, packing up the equipment for going up the mountain quickly, and moving cleanly and neatly. When he talks to people, he is always smiling, optimistic and humorous, and is a trusted person for rangers.

"When I first went up the mountain, I just wanted to get a job." Recalling the past, Fu Huiquan confessed his original thoughts. Parrot Ridge was right in front of his house, and he went up the mountain to become a public welfare forest ranger.

At Parrot Ridge, the expedition team in contact is well-known in the industry. Experts from The Hong Kong Non-Profit Organization Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden (hereinafter referred to as Kadoorie), professors from Northeast Forestry University, scientific research units, universities and public welfare societies in Hainan and the whole country often go to the mountains for scientific expeditions, walking with them, Fu Hui works and learns at the same time, unveiling the mysterious veil of the tropical rainforest, and the unique beauty deeply attracts him.

The love of animals stems from infrared cameras. At the beginning of Fu Huiquan's employment, Kadoorie funded the installation of infrared cameras at Parrot Ridge. The first time he went up the mountain to place the camera, Fu Huiquan accompanied him up the mountain, and in the future, as long as there was a task of placing the camera, the leaders would send him to participate. Gradually, in charge of the work related to infrared cameras in the area, Fu Huiquan had the opportunity to participate deeply, regularly check and save shooting data, and update the camera memory.

Infrared camera monitoring, opening up another vivid world for him.

In the shot, there are yellow foxes, sambar deer flashing rapidly, beautiful peacock pheasants, and ferocious porcupines. Camera monitoring is not difficult, it is difficult because of their rare appearances. When capturing them through the lens, Fu Huiquan was particularly surprised, "every time I see them, it's like winning the jackpot.".

"When I was a child, I always saw all kinds of small animals when I went up the mountain with adults. As they grew up, they were hunted less and less. Through the lens, seeing them again, the living life is in front of my eyes, and anyone who sees the scene will be excited. For the first time, I realized that the ranger position was to protect the home on which I depended, and for the first time I felt the responsibility on my shoulders. ”

Fu Huiquan has been in charge of infrared camera work for 9 years and is now a master at determining the position of the camera. The height and angle of placement should be exquisite, choose the only way for animals, try to avoid the destruction of people and animals, and easily replace the memory card.

Since 2016, Fu Hui's full-management nursing team has continuously monitored the oil-spotted tree frog. Initially 4 were found in the tree hole, and later artificial water basins were placed, and they did breed in the pots. In 2018, the number increased to 13.

"The Prismatic Bark Tree Frog in the Beibu Gulf also likes to breed in pots, and when we patrol the mountains, we will place water basins to help them create a better habitat." There are 39 species of frogs in Parrot Ridge, and Fu Huiquan knows their habits very well.

While patrolling the mountains, the rangers publicize that "things on the mountain cannot be touched", and with the enhancement of the protection awareness of the people in the mountains, the rainforest ecology that no one interferes with is slowly getting better.

In 2020, the latest atlas data from Parrot Ridge shows that there are 250 species of birds in the jurisdiction; 119 species of amphibians and reptiles, including frogs, turtles, lizards, eyelid tigers, snakes and other species; 49 species of mammals; and 92 species of fish.

Ten years of patrolling the mountains and forest, Fu Huiquan studied hard for ten years, focusing on animal observation, he insisted on taking pictures to consult the data for self-study, and asked for advice and learning from researchers and experts on the mountain. Each expedition team that goes up the mountain will set up a group, each group is Fu Huiquan's learning group, and more than 300 kinds of animals are so familiar with it day by day.

Second, "Working with scientific research work makes me feel very accomplished"

According to the custom, China's nature reserves should publish a map book every few years to record the number of animals and plants. In recent years, Fu Huiquan has served as an editorial board member of several sets of animal atlases in Parrot Ridge, "Atlas of Amphibians and Reptiles of Hainan Parrot Ridge", "Atlas of Birds of Hainan Parrot Ridge", "Atlas of Rare and Endangered Wild Animals and Plants of Hainan Parrot Ridge", "Catalogue of Freshwater Fish of Hainan Parrot Ridge"... It also provides pictures for each picture book, and the shooting method is professional, and the rare shots are tracked for a long time. "The pictures taken are used by some people, some people look at them, and they are doing things in a down-to-earth manner, and they feel very fulfilled." Those pictures have my signature on them, and there is indeed a sense of accomplishment. ”

"I would like to thank the Parrot Ridge Branch Bureau for its training of the ranger community, especially the team members who like scientific expeditions will get a lot of learning opportunities." Fu Huiquan explained the necessity of this operation, the rangers have rich experience in the field and are familiar with animals and plants, and the 230 rangers of Parrot Ridge complement the experts and scholars who go up to the mountain for scientific research and research, and provide the necessary cooperation.

Speaking of going up the mountain, Parrot Ridge has a hard indicator for the assessment of rangers, and must stay in the rainforest every month, three days and two nights. March to June is the ranger's favorite season, no typhoons and less rain, the mountains are particularly cool. July and October are the saddest days, typhoon days bring abundant precipitation, and people travel hard and dangerous in the rainforest.

In the middle of the summer of 2014, Fu Huiquan led the team up the mountain, and one evening set up a stove to cook at the water side of the Hanpo Creek in parrot mouth, and returned to the tent with a flashlight after eating to prepare for rest. After taking a few steps, "suddenly scared out of a few cold sweats", it turned out that he had just stepped over a snake, this snake named "Vietnamese chrome iron head", highly poisonous!

"The flashlight inadvertently swept over it, and when I felt its presence, I had already stepped over." At that time, the snake's body was already erect, in an aggressive shape.

Soon, everyone found a long stick to pick it up in the distance, and defused the crisis.

Fortunately, Fu Huiquan and the team members had basically not been attacked by poisonous snakes, but they were inevitably bitten by poisonous insects.

Third, the ranger individual equipment Donkey friends look at it with envy

Speaking of mosquito bites in the rainforest, Fu Huiquan smiled, opened his mobile phone and clicked on the circle of friends to find a picture push in October 2018: a pair of high-top hiking shoes are densely covered with dozens of ants, long and short large and small, or piled up or are trying to climb up, sucking blood up to several times the size of the body, thin is desperately drilling into the shoes, many have climbed to Fu Huiquan's calves. The scene made people's scalps tingle.

In the mountains, there are more frightening bees than ants, which bite people, equivalent to markings, and will always follow you and keep attacking people. There was also the Black Shield Wasp, "It eats meat, and when it bites, it is equivalent to a heavy hammer, which is very painful." Fu Huiquan is not only familiar with animals, but also understands plants, and immediately launched a popular science with reporters: cut a drip Guanyin stem, apply the wound with the incision, and immediately stop itching, "Remember, usually don't touch it, it will be very itchy when you touch it." ”

Compared to annoying critters, rangers are most afraid of three things when they go up the mountain to work: rain, flash floods, and poisonous snakes. Especially when it comes to typhoon days, it is really uncomfortable.

Once, Fu Huiquan and his team members crossed the hinterland of parrot ridge to complete a scientific expedition mission, hit a typhoon day, the rain was too heavy to work, and everyone was wet on the mountain. "It was very humid in the rainforest, and with the heavy rain, I couldn't cook without a fire. Everyone hid hungrily in the tent, there was water inside and out, and people squatted all night, cold and hungry and sleepy but could not sleep. That kind of uncomfortable can not be described, everyone sees the ant crawling on the leg, do not want to care about it, let it bite, and can not die. ”

"Whenever we have toiled, we tell the stories of retired rangers. Think about them, our current conditions are much better, naturally do not feel bitter, added to the motivation to persist. The retired old ranger told Fu Huiquan that when he went up the mountain to patrol decades ago, he supported a plastic film to cover the rain, and then laid a plastic film under his body for moisture protection, and lay down to sleep directly. When I spend the night by the stream, I will sleep in a sack and build a fire next to it. If there is no fire, ants and mosquitoes can eat people.

In recent years, the equipment of Hainan rangers has become more and more complete, and Fu Huiquan showed reporters the equipment of individual soldiers: tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, kettles, backpacks, machetes, flashlights, etc.; clothing includes quick-drying clothes, storm jackets, full winter clothes, t-shirts, hiking shoes, hats, etc. "Our equipment is professional outdoor level, which makes many donkey friends hungry." Fu Huiquan smiled and squinted one by one.
