When he was in Rongzhou, he heard that this place was famous for winemaking, and Huang Tingjian followed the local customs and tasted fine wines everywhere, and since then he has had another pleasure of tasting good wine.
He saw a canyon with ingenious craftsmanship, so he had a unique idea, imitating the artistic conception of the flow of water in Wang Xizhi's "Orchid Pavilion Collection", chiseling the pond to divert water, building a flowing cup pool, inviting literati and scholars to gather here, with flowing water as the seat, chanting poems and splashing ink.
In unsatisfactory circumstances, he used all the beauty within his reach to build his own spiritual garden.

When Huang Tingjian was demoted to Qianzhou, others were worried about him, but like no one else, he fell asleep on his head and woke up, and he even had a happy face.
Qianzhou is located in the barbaric land of Bashu, and after many years, how can it still be laughed?
Huang Tingjian replied:
"Wherever there is a place where the sun, moon, and stars shine, there is nowhere to send this life, what worries?"
Because of such an open-minded state of mind, even if he was exiled to Yizhou in his later years, he was still at ease.
In Yizhou, he had nowhere to stay, so he had to live in an abandoned military building.
The living environment is dilapidated, but Huang Tingjian enjoys himself and gives it an elegant name - Huan Lonely Zhai.
Every day, he lived in the shulou building, opposite the neighbor's cattle slaughtering board, listening to the noise of the city, still sitting on the bed, burning incense and reading.
One summer day, when there was a sudden downpour, Huang Tingjian drank some wine in the Shulou Building, sat on a chair, and put his feet out from the railing to pour rain outside, excited like a child, shouting: "I have never been so fast in my life!" ”
The calmness in this predicament is his strength against reality, and it is also the wisdom of self-fulfillment.
Being in a trough can best test a person's realm.
Mr. Yang Dai once told the story of being sent to a cadre school in "Six Records of a Cadre School".

Someone once described Huang Tingjian as follows: a life of ups and downs, laughing and passing away.

At the age of 19, Huang Tingjian took the township examination and won the first place.
However, when he entered Beijing to participate in the scientific expedition with the title of township chief, the result was unexpected, and he fell behind Sun Shan and did not have the opportunity to be on the list.
When the news of the list came, the people who fell off the list at the banquet got up and beat their chests, but Huang Tingjian drank himself calmly.
He carried his bags back to the mountains to study hard, and after 3 years, he returned to the scientific examination and high school in one fell swoop.
After becoming an official, he also had the same attitude towards all the changes and setbacks in his career.
Demoted to Deping, in just half a year, he created several classic poems, including "Send Wang Lang", among which "a glass of wine in the spring breeze of peach and plum, ten years of rain in the rivers and lakes", has become a famous sentence that has been passed down through the ages.
In the six years that he degraded Bashu, he not only composed more than 100 outstanding poems, but also set up private schools, taught and lectured, and won the love of mathematicians with poetry and books.
In the last three years of his life, he immersed himself in the dilapidated environment of Yizhou, specializing in calligraphy, and eventually became a generation of people, leaving immortal works such as "Fan Huan's Biography" and "Yi Youjia Cheng" for the world.
All the setbacks became stepping stones for him to climb upwards; all the sufferings he regarded as a practice.
Suffering is not an easy task, and those who can regard it as idle, and those who do not recognize their fate can always break a path of their own.
