According to the British "Metro Newspaper", several ships carrying 75 migrants were intercepted while trying to travel from France to Britain. Last week, a new record was set for the number of people crossing the English Channel, with 853 people trying to make the journey through on Wednesday (November 3) alone.

More than 21,000 migrants crossed the English Channel into the UK this year

On Saturday (6th), the British Border Force intercepted 29 people and French personnel intercepted 40 people. France is currently working with Britain to stop migrant ships from leaving the French coast, and the British government has paid millions of dollars to keep French beaches safe.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has previously promised to stop desperate migrants from embarking on a life-threatening journey across the English Channel. In 2019, she vowed to make migrant crossings a "rare phenomenon" by spring 2020, and then promised in August 2020 to "make the route unfeasible." But more than 21,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel so far this year, more than double the total of 2020.

Dan O'mahoney, commander of the British Operation Secret Passage Threat, said: "These crossings across the English Channel are illegal, dangerous, unnecessary and organised by violent criminal gangs that profit from suffering, and we saw this again last week, which could lead to tragic consequences." We are working with France to stop ships from leaving French beaches and to crack down on the criminals who organize these illegal crossings. ”

Omaioni added, "Migrants should apply for asylum in the first safe country they arrive in." The government's new immigrant program will patch up the system to make it more restrictive to those who abuse it and more equitable to those who really need it.

French authorities confirmed that two migrants died last week and several others may have gone missing at sea. Activists have called for safer routes for people trying to enter the UK so that similar tragedies don't happen.

The British group "Refugee Action" accused the British government of peddling "dangerous myths" by declaring that those crossing the English Channel were "economic migrants" and "not real asylum seekers". Tim Naor Hilton, the group's chief executive, told The Independent: "The government must stop its despicable policy of inciting hatred against families fleeing violence and persecution and repair the asylum system that has been undermined by its own incompetence."
