Later, especially when I started doing stage plays and TV series, I found that I may have a desire to control in my bones, so I began to "punch and kick". At the end of the day, I just want to take my fate into my own hands. When making a new attempt and creation, it is like throwing out your own life dart. Why is this "dart" called a boomerang? Because it will be back. How much time does it take to come back to the process? When it comes back, is it capable of catching it? I think it's about how much heart I use and how much experience I use to polish. Prepare your abilities and be sure to hold it firmly in your hand when it flies back.
I'm an artist, and when I'm walking down the street, someone stops me and says, "Aren't you that actor?" "Whose's that you are...?" "What's your name?" I always told him, "Yes, I'm an actor". I am Wu Sangui, the tyrant in "The Wind and Clouds at the End of the Ming Dynasty", Dolgun in "Who Is in charge of the Central Plains", and Li Wei in "The Country is Heavy", these are all TV drama roles I have played.
Of course, I'm still a director, and in many of my productions, I'm an actor and director, and sometimes even a producer of a TV series. Friends around me often call me: Old Bai, Bai Dao, Bai Brother, Bai Zong. But in fact, I have never forgotten that the drama stage where I first grew up, I can't forget that I was once the "Mei Lanfang" on the drama stage.
More than 20 years ago, when I graduated from the Shanghai Theater Academy, Mr. Yu Qiuyu, the dean at the time, called me to his office. He said to me: "Bai Yongcheng, you have the foundation of traditional Chinese culture, you must find a way to give full play to your own creative advantages, and always remember that the culture of the nation is the culture of the world." "I took the teacher's words to heart, and I have been looking for an opportunity to complete this instruction from the teacher.
Until one day, I saw a book on my dusty bookshelf, which was Mr. Mei Lanfang's "Forty Years of Stage Life", which made me open up, I thought this is not the best way! Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang is a master I have always admired, and when I was an opera actor before, I read his "Forty Years of Stage Life". When I re-read the book again, I was surprised to find that I had the same artistic experience as the master. Mr. Mei learned art at the age of eight, took the stage at the age of eleven, and became popular in Shanghai at the age of twenty. It so happened that I also began to learn art at the age of eight, performed "Baolian Lantern" on stage at the age of eleven, and came to the Shanghai Theater Academy to study at the age of twenty.
Later, I found a way to find Mr. Mei's son, Mr. Mei Shaowu, and I said to him, "I want to make a drama "Mei Lanfang" by your father." "My husband wrote me an eight-page letter encouraging me to work hard. I remember that it was December 12, 1994, and the venue we chose to perform was the theater where Mr. Mei Lanfang first appeared in Shanghai, the Tiantou Stage, and the first round was sixteen performances, full of people. Over the next twenty years, I performed across the country, entered Beijing three times, performed twice at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and during the rehearsal of the second edition, Mr. Mei Baojiu, the mentor, joined in, orally taught and guided. I remember a performance, I sang "Three Cannons Like Thunder" in "Mu Guiying Hangs Commander", I had not finished singing, Teacher Mei Baojiu said: "How did I hear the taste of Cheng Pai?" "The teacher may have said that, and I can't just listen to it." After the performance, I pestered the teacher to let him teach me, sentence by sentence, over and over again, until Teacher Mei Baojiu said, "Okay, Mei Baojiu is full of flavor." ”
For the creation of characters, I have also gone through several twists and turns, and I have constantly polished them. I remember the first time I performed in Beijing was at the Mei Lanfang Grand Theatre, the next day I saw a media report, titled "Bai Yongcheng's Mei Lanfang is very grandfatherly", you know, Master Mei Lanfang's biggest feature is that he is simple and luxurious, dignified and beautiful, quiet in the feelings, feminine and generous, and use "grandfather" to describe the Mei Lanfang I played, which shows that I still have a lot of gaps in the creation of the role. Next, I tried to find a way to find the audience who had seen my play, and carefully consulted with them, and most importantly, I carefully observed the details of the life of Teacher Mei Baojiu and his student Teacher Hu Wenge in my life. Then, when she entered the National Centre for the Performing Arts for the second time, Ms. Mei Baojiu said in front of all the media people: "This is the best way I have seen to express my father." ”
In "Mei Lanfang", I really got a lot, and my husband taught me: "We must act seriously, and we must do our duty." This makes me feel that in artistic creation, I must have no distraction to achieve the realm of "you have me, I have you". If you don't have to be careful when you create a character, if you don't have a heart, you're going to be nothing, nothing.
I am a restless person, and when the stage plays "Mei Lanfang", "Zhou Xuan" and "Desire Under the Elm Tree" were all in full swing, I began to create TV dramas again. I was very eager to have a bigger stage and wanted to communicate with more audiences. Since I was a child, I have been very, very interested in all kinds of things related to acting, from the age of 8 to learn art to the present decades, although in real life I have a lot of social roles, and constantly challenge myself, challenge all kinds of impossible, but I know that the original Bai Yongcheng has never left.
From the small stage stage of the stage play to the big stage of the movie and TV series, I received a lot of applause and many honors, but when I returned to my hometown of Gansu and returned to the land where I was born and raised, I found that the previous stage was too small. I finally realized that "going to the people, going to the front line of life", that is the real big stage of life.
It was 2015 and I was 49 years old. As a producer, I have invested in many commercial TV series and movies, and I have enough ability to do what I can for the barren yellow land of my childhood. I wanted to show you the great changes in my hometown in the west in recent years through the lens, so I decided to focus my creation on targeted poverty alleviation and poverty alleviation. The TV series "Bittersweet Village Official" and "No One Can Be Less" came into being, both of which use simple language and sincere emotions to tell the touching story of rural revitalization and rural prosperity. I just want to use my lens to let the world see that Chinese farmers are no longer facing the loess and facing the sky, but the intelligent life has entered thousands of households and come to a new era in the fields.
Progressing from one stage to a larger stage is the dream of many people, and for a long time, it was also my biggest dream as a literary and artistic worker. I remember what my teacher said to me when I was a child: "There is perseverance, do not withdraw; there is self, not vain." "In every down-to-earth moment, the moment I threw the life boomerang with all my might, I knew that when it flew back, I had to hold it firmly. Grateful for the land under our feet, grateful for the era we are in, I think this is the biggest stage in life.
