On the fourth day of the Expo, the cultural relics and artworks section set up for the first time has indeed become a new popular punch card. A total of 178 exhibits were declared in this section, among which the works of well-known artists such as Zhang Daqian, Yayoi Kusama, Monet, and Damien Hirst received the most attention. Zhang Daqian is more special, this expo actually gathered five paintings of his different periods, two of which are quite legendary, come and see it together.
At the opening stage of the Expo, Zhang Daqian's "Weijiang" and "Wuting Lake" have received more exposure, and the other three works "Qiaomu Fanghui", "Amazing Talent" and "Hengtang Rain" have received relatively little attention. After carefully browsing, the reporter found that the five works unveiled this time ranged from the 1950s to the 1980s, with both landscapes and brushes, each with its own characteristics.
Sotheby's "Wei Jiang" is the rarest of these and the earliest ones created. In the 1940s, Zhang Daqian lived in Shuzhong for a period of time and created many works based on the landscape of Shuzhong. "Wei Jiang" was written in 1948 and is the work of this era.
According to the data, "Weijiang" is one of a group of 8 works created by Zhang Daqian depicting the mountain scenery of Qingcheng Mountain. Other paintings included in this group include "Rope Bridge", "Leaving the Pile", "Qingcheng Mountain", "Gaotai Mountain", "ZhangrenFeng", "Tianshi Cave" and "Old Man Estate". The series of works was included in the 1967 edition of Zhang Daqian's Paintings, compiled by Gao Lingmei, which was then a black-and-white plate. Since then, only works have been published in the bibliography and public exhibitions, such as "Wei Jiang" and "Old Man Estate". According to public information, in 2016, "Weijiang" was auctioned in the form of an estimate pending inquiry, and finally sold for HK$35.48 million.
Another legendary work is "Amazing Talent", which also sold for HK$96.76 million at the auction in 2019, the highest auction record in the venue at that time. From the public information, the work has appreciated more than 20 times from 2001 to 2019.
"Amazing Talent" takes the red whisker girl as the theme, and the theme is rare in Zhang Daqian's female figure. And later generations have praised that after 1942, after experiencing the influence of Dunhuang murals, Zhang Daqian's painting skills have greatly increased, and his character painting costumes, character modeling and brushwork have a considerable effect. But since his eye disease in 1957, Zhang Daqian has rarely painted brush figures. As a result, "Amazing Talent" was created in 1953, which can be described as the peak of his workmanship.
At the time of the creation of "Amazing Talent", Zhang Daqian was already living in Argentina at that time, and except for the occasional trip, he focused on painting the rest of the time. Three years later, the Musée moderne in Paris hosted the "Zhang Daqian Painting Exhibition", Zhang Daqian carefully selected 61 of the most representative paintings of different themes from his own fine works, which is one of them, which shows its weight in the artist's own heart. What adds legend to the famous paintings is that the works have been handed over by Zhang Daqian's close friends Li Zulai and his wife, who are immortals, and there are also famous Peking opera actors Meng Xiaodong who take photos with this work, which is particularly rare.
Created in 1967, "Wuting Lake" also has its preciousness. In 1954, Zhang Daqian's family moved to Brazil, and spent nearly a decade to build the "Bade Garden", building the poetic Xiaoxiang Realm that the painter pursued all his life. There are landscapes, trees, birds and flowers in the garden, which is the largest three-dimensional painting painted by Mr. Daqian on the ground. Built in 1962, the "Five Pavilions" are surrounded by the "Bade Pond" to enjoy the scenery and avoid the rain, which is the main landscape in the park.
Unfortunately, in 1969, because the reservoir was rebuilt at the original site, the "Bade Pond" sank to the bottom of the water, and this "three-dimensional painting" depicted by Mr. Daqian on the plane of the "Five Pavilions Lake Map" has become a very valuable historical record. The Zhang Daqian Art Museum built in Chengdu will present the original appearance of Wuting Lake, and this year's construction has entered the end.
At the same time, Zhang Daqian's "Hengtang Rain" created in 1969 also appeared at the scene of the Expo, when it was the Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhang Daqian and his wife's brother gathered in Wuting Lake. The painting also appeared at Sotheby's Spring Auction in 2014, when it was valued at between HK$3 million and HK$5 million. The painting is also the least publicly available.
"Arbor Fanghui" is the latest painting in this exhibition, composed in 1983. "Arbor Fanghui" is the subject of Zhang Daqian's paintings, but in middle age, it is only occasional, and it is gradually painted more until old age. This work combines his expertise in Coats themes with his mature splashing techniques in his later years, depicting a moment when a Coats stands alone under a towering tree. Inscription:"There is little morality, and it is ultimately contrary to the custom." Chaotic mountain trees, green moss fanghui. From Sikong Tu's "Poetry", it describes the kind of poetry of "super mastery". This sentence is unique to Zhang Daqian, and the Taoist birth has a strong meaning, which can be imagined in his state of mind.
