Portrait of Kinnon

Jin Nong was a famous calligrapher and painter of the Qing Dynasty, a native of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, born in 1687 and died in 1763. In the era when Jin Nong lived, there were many famous calligraphers and painters in Yangzhou, especially the eight calligraphers and painters with the highest achievements and different personalities from ordinary people, who were called "Yangzhou Eight Monsters" by the people at that time. Jinnong is also among the "Eight Monsters of Yangzhou" and is also the first of the Eight Monsters of Yangzhou.

In the twenty-sixth year of the Qing Kangxi Dynasty, Jin Nong was born in a relatively wealthy family in Qiantang, the family has some land property, and there are many houses, according to Jin Nong's own words: "The family has a few ridges of fields, a number of houses, on the Qiantang River, the middle is the shutang, the back of the river is back, and the mountains outside the river are endless."

Jin Nong was brilliant from an early age, and his family sent him to the home of the famous scholar He Zhuo to study. He was close to Ding Jing, one of the "Eight Houses of Xiling", and at the same time as Wu Xilin, he interacted with the so-called "Three High Priests of Western Zhejiang". Interacting with these talented celebrities has made Jin Nongcai more and more learned, making him erudite and versatile.

In the first year of Qianlong, Jin Nong was recommended by Qiu Siqin to teach the Erudite Hongzi Branch, but unfortunately, he did not enter beijing for reference. This time, he was greatly shocked, and he felt depressed, so he gave up continuing his scientific research and began to travel around the world to increase his insight and cultivate his own sentiments.

When he was over fifty years old, Jinnong began to learn to paint. Because he concentrated on learning in his early years, and later traveled all over the world, traveling all over Qi, Lu, Yan, Zhao, Qin, Jin, Wu, and Guangdong, he was quite handy in learning calligraphy and painting. Because of his profound expression skills and countless famous deeds, he finally achieved achievements in calligraphy and painting and became a generation of famous artists. Not only did people from all walks of life pursue his paintings, but many later generations of calligraphy and painting also admired him and hoped to get his guidance and evaluation.

Kinnon spent his life on the road, although for a long time his paintings were sought after by individuals, some of them for thousands of dollars. However, like many Romantic artists, Kinnon did not have a specific understanding of money. Often, "thousands of dollars are also scattered.". Therefore, in his old age, he had nowhere to live, and then lived in Yangzhou, relying on selling calligraphy and paintings to maintain his daily needs.

Sometimes, in order to earn living expenses, Jinnong would also sell antiques, copy Buddhist scriptures, and even engrave stones to increase his income. Jin Nong never got good results in the imperial examination in his life, but he lived a very elegant life and wandered in the natural beauty, which is also a funny thing.

In the twenty-eighth year of Qianlong, the seventy-seven-year-old Jin Nong died, completing his bumpy life.
