The first tropical cyclone of the U.S. Eastern Pacific hurricane season began to take shape

author:CCTV News

CNN reported on May 8 local time that the first tropical cyclone of the 2021 east Pacific hurricane season has begun to take shape on the west coast of Mexico. The storm system that began taking shape on the 7th arrived more than a week ahead of the projected official start date of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season (May 15). The National Hurricane Center announced that within the next 48 hours, it will have a 70 percent chance of developing into an official tropical storm.

The local weather department estimates that the storm is unlikely to affect land. If it strengthens into a tropical storm this weekend, as predicted, it will be officially named "Andres."

In a bid to call on residents who may be affected to be safe, the National Hurricane Center has designated May 9 to May 15 a National Hurricane Preparedness Week, which will help people prepare for the upcoming hurricane season based on a daily theme. (CCTV reporter Xu Xiao)
