The reporter learned from the Shanghai Filmmakers Association that Wu Yigong, one of the representatives of the fourth generation of Chinese directors, former vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and chairman of the China Filmmakers Association, died at 7:32 a.m. on September 14, 2019 at Shanghai Ruijin Hospital at the age of 80.

Born in Chongqing in 1938, Wu Yigong was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and has lived in Shanghai since 1948. He graduated from the Directing Department of the Beijing Film Academy in 1960 and returned to Shanghai in the same year to work as a director's assistant, assistant director and director. Since 1984, he has successively served as deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Film Bureau, manager of the Shanghai Film Corporation, director of the Shanghai Film Studio, secretary of the Party Committee and director of the Shanghai Film Bureau, artistic director of the Shanghai Municipal Radio, Film and Television Bureau, and director of the Shanghai Cinema. Co-founded the Shanghai International Film Festival. The main film works are: "Our Little Flower Cat", "Bashan Night Rain", "Seongnam Old Things", "Sister", "Exile University", "The Young Master's Ordeal", "The Moon Returns with People", "Que Li RenJia" and so on. Among them, "Bashan Night Rain" won the best feature film award of the first Chinese Film Golden Rooster Award, and "The Old Story of Seongnam" won the Golden Eagle Award for Best Feature Film at the 2nd Manila International Film Festival and other domestic and foreign awards.

He also served as vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, chairman of the China Filmmakers Association, president of the China Film Directors Association, chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, chairman of the Shanghai Filmmakers Association, and alternate member of the 14th and 15th Central Committees of the Communist Party of China. He has won many awards such as "Top Ten National Film and Television Film Directors in the New Era", "National Film Artist with Outstanding Contribution", Shanghai Literature and Art Award Outstanding Contribution Award, 2012 China Film Directors Association "Lifetime Achievement Award", and the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival "Chinese Film Lifetime Achievement Award".

In May this year, the veteran artist who had spent his life with Shanghai films and Chinese films wrote "Long live Shanghai films" on his sickbed, pinning his boundless affection.
