Mummy, also known as Tomb Raiders, is an American adventure film produced by Universal Pictures, written and directed by Stephen Sommers, co-starring Brandon Fisher, Rachel Weiss, John Hanna, Kevin J. O'Connor, and Arnold Voslow. The film is partly a remake of the 1932 horror film of the same name, released in the United States on May 7, 1999. It tells that in 1920, the American explorer O'Connor was hired by the British librarian and her brother who was an Egyptologist to explore Egypt, unfortunately "released" the millennium mummy into a living person, and then embarked on an exciting thrilling journey.
In 1719 BC, in the Egyptian city of Thebes, the love affair between the evil wizard Emmerhotep and the pharaoh's wife Aksuna was exposed. Aksuna commits suicide, and Emerhotep's desperate act of hamnniptra, the city of the dead, desecrates the gods.
Because of his disgraceful actions, he is ultimately cursed to become a zombie, but never to die. Only when his decaying body disappears will he be liberated. As Emmerhotep screamed in horror as the sarcophagus closed, the curse had been buried, and his evil, vengeful heart grew stronger in the darkness.
In 1923, active soldier Richard O'Connell and comrade-in-arms Beni waddled through the ruins of what was once Hamnneputra during a battle. A few years later, as O'Connell awaited an almost certain trial in prison, he suddenly felt that he knew that the ruins of Hamniptra might save his life. Filming began in Marrakech on 4 May 1998 and lasted 17 weeks before moving on to erfoud, a small town on the edge of the Sahara Desert, and then to the UK, where filming was completed on 29 August 1998. During this period, the political situation in Egypt was turbulent, so the crew could not go there. To prevent dehydration under the scorching Sahara sun, the crew's medical team made a drink that all staff members drank every two hours. Sandstorms that occur every day inconvenience the filming work, and snakes, spiders and scorpions are also a major problem for everyone, many of whom have to be airlifted to the hospital for treatment after being bitten.
