He Jiheng

Founder of the Yanghe school of medicine in Jiangsu Sultan - He Jiheng

He Jiheng (1866 ~ 1934), formerly known as He Jun, the character Jiheng, Ji Jian, the late name refers to the old man of Zen, Qing Tongzhi five years (1866) was born in Danyang City, Nanqiao River along the He Family Lane.

He Jun was gifted and intelligent, and at the age of six, he studied in a private school, and the books he taught were never forgotten, and he was deeply loved by his father. At the age of seven, he unfortunately suffered from typhoid fever, was bedridden for nearly a year, and after recovering, his right foot was still slightly flexed. His parents saw that he was unable to walk and was distressed, so they asked Meng he to send a famous Chinese medicine doctor Ma Peizhi for diagnosis and treatment, and soon, his right foot miraculously returned to normal. Ma Peizhi's skillful hand rejuvenation of the medical skills made the young He Jun solemnly respected, in his mind, Ma Peizhi became a living immortal who saved the suffering of the world. Therefore, the ambition and belief of growing up to study medicine also sprang up in the depths of his soul.

He Jun was the third eldest, and his brothers Tie Yu and Xia Yi were both trained by Ma Peizhi in their early years, and after completing their studies, they practiced medicine in Danyang City, which was quite famous, and then died early. At the age of ten, He Jun boarded the Xiayi Clinic, "so he took the Zhongshu Shu and read it as much as he could", and began to contact the "Neijing" and "Compendium of Materia Medica" and other Chinese medicine classics.

In the fifth year of Guangxu (1879), He Jun, who was only fourteen years old, came to the town of Menghe in Wujin, which bordered Danyang Dongxiang, and officially worshiped under the door of the benefactor Ma Pei.

He Jun studied medicine attentively, diligently, and had a very high level of understanding, so as to win the appreciation of his mentor. Ma Peizhi often gave him the treasure recipe secret, carefully opened a small stove for him, and from time to time sighed: "Now that I have he Jun, my way has been passed down in Danyang." "He Jun's true biography has obviously benefited a lot, and his studies have made great progress.

He is highly skilled and experienced

In the eleventh year of Guangxu (1885), He Jun, who had been employed for six years, would return from his studies. When bidding farewell to the teacher, Ma Peizhi took his hand affectionately and said in a serious tone, "The mantle of my door is in Ziyi." It can be seen that he has great expectations for his beloved disciple. He Jun returned to Danyang, where he inherited his brother's business and treated the people's diseases at the former Xiayi Clinic in the Qiu Family Ancestral Hall along the Nanqiao River, and later moved to the expanded residence of He Jia Lane. He was young and his prescription was unusual, and he was not recognized by others for a while. However, within a few years, He Jun lived up to his mentor's teachings and healed many difficult and complicated diseases. As a result, the fame began to rise, and the number of people who came to the doctor for a time was endless.

Since then, the Nanqiao River has changed the previous desert, seekers flock to the city, the city river is full of boats from inside and outside the province from time to time, the Nanqiao River along the hotel is full, the neighborhood merchants have added hotels and restaurants, grocery stores, etc., to meet the increasing demand of patients. The nanqiao river became another bustling downtown area in Danyang City in the late Qing Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty.

He is a skilled physician and rigorous in his studies. Every time a patient is diagnosed and treated, it is necessary to first inquire about the condition in detail, the subtle knots, and not tire of it; after cutting the pulse, it is quietly thinking, and then calmly prescribing a prescription, and examining it three times, and then giving the prescription to grasp the medicine. In this way, the daily consultation volume is as many as more than 100 numbers, and those who have been healed by him have all worked.

He Jun's medical ethics are noble, he regards patients as relatives, and when poor people come to seek medical treatment, they are often exempted from the consultation fee and given medicine. In addition to the daily clinic, He Jun has to visit the clinic every night. He cares about the patient, is anxious about the patient's urgency, is on call, and never slacks off. Whether it is the summer or winter, or the storm, there is no end to it; every night the seekers often meet each other, and even go to the clinic more than a dozen times a night, so they often return at dawn. He Jun's firm belief in healing the world and his good intentions in curing suffering are doubly appreciated. The metaphorical meaning of the word "Ji Heng" that he inscribed was enough to show his heart, and Ji Heng also became his later big name.

With the improvement of He Jiheng's medical skills and his prestige, the number of admirers who came to worship the master also followed, and his protégés reached thirty-six people, including his son Zhuo ren, his nephew Zhan Ru, and his cousin Gong. This pomp and circumstance was comparable to that of Ma Peizhi. His re-disciple Zhang Jize (Zhang Zesheng's son) once wrote: "Master He Jiheng is the mainstay of the Menghe School of Medicine. "The expectations of the old Ma Pei mantle have finally come true.

Do your best to heal the suffering

In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), just when He Jiheng's medical path was in the sky, his son Zhuo Ren unfortunately suffered from hemoptysis and died. This sudden blow left He Jiheng in a state of utter grief, and he was so distraught that he destroyed the "daily transcript" and the "Diagnosis of Yumo City" and closed the door to thank him. He Jiheng, who was suffering in all kinds of pain, pondered bitterly and inscribed the word "sending traces" for himself. Danyang's father, fellow villagers and celebrities from all walks of life, who suffered from the loss of good doctors, jointly begged him to resume his diagnosis business, and set up a diagnosis number on his behalf, limiting the number of doctors per day to a few days, and taking a few days off. He Jiheng was overwhelmed with emotion, so he reluctantly responded to the diagnosis.

Later, Cheng Xuelou, the governor of Jiangsu Province, came to Dan for medical treatment with an illness, and after he was cured by He Jiheng's treatment, Cheng Xuelou urged him to focus on saving his suffering. As a result, He Jiheng returned to the busyness of "daytime outpatient clinic and evening visit". He also led his protégés Zhang Zesheng and Yan Yilu to create the "Renshoutang" Chinese medicine store in the downtown area of Shuangjing Lane, and hired the famous Chinese medicine master Zhou Bingjun as the manager. Pharmacy homemade pills loose cream Dan, famous proprietary Chinese medicines include He's stroke Bovine Yellow Pills, Laryngeal Secret Medicine, Yushu Dan, Qibi Dan, Marching Scatter, Jiang Gui Pills, Niu Huang Qibao Pills and so on. These proprietary Chinese medicines are all formulated by He Jiheng himself, and they are also his commonly used medicines, and the efficacy is extremely remarkable.

Renshoutang does not seek fame and fortune, the selection of drugs is excellent, the goods are genuine, and the business is booming, resulting in the purchase of drugs from other places also flocking to the city. This also aroused the jealousy of some pharmacy owners, and in the tenth year of the Republic of China (1921), there was a pharmacy owner surnamed Xue who deliberately wanted to destroy Renshoutang. He used his half-understood knowledge of drugs to encourage the families of patients who had been treated by He Jiheng to make trouble, and came forward to incite: "As a famous doctor, I don't know the taboo of 'cloves and tulips' medication, this is the wrong medicine, it will kill people!" He Jiheng was calm and self-assured, did not argue with him, but only agreed with him to taste the medicine at a tea house at the foot of the Xianqiao Bridge, and promised that his grandson He Tongsun would come to taste the medicine. When the news came out, it caused a sensation in Danyang City.

At two o'clock in the afternoon of the next day, the tea house was full of citizens who heard the news, and He Tongsun, who was eleven years old at the time, also came to the tea house on time under the leadership of his uncles. "Cloves and tulips" was fried on the spot by Boss Xue, and He Tongsun drank a bowl of "clove tulip soup" in one breath. After a few hours, his grandson's face did not change, and there was no sign of abnormality. The truth is self-evident, and there was an uproar in the teahouse, and people accused Boss Xue of insulting famous doctors for no reason. Boss Xue, who humiliated himself in front of everyone, had no place for himself and quietly slipped away. The next day, the patient's family specially went to He's home to apologize to He Jiheng. At this time, He Jiheng revealed: "Boss Xue only knows the old saying of 'lilac Mo and tulip matching' in 'Nineteen Fears', but he does not know that lilac with tulip has the effect of soothing the liver and rational qi." ”

In He Jiheng's medical career, there are also many impressive tidbits, such as Danyang folk household name and familiar "true and false medicine prescriptions to cure critical diseases", "one sentence to calm a lawsuit" and so on. At that time, there was a saying that "if a married daughter falls ill, if she dies without He Jiheng's diagnosis and treatment, her mother's family will not rely on it"; "Without He Jiheng's medical treatment, she will be wronged when she dies." "This shows how much people trust a generation of famous doctors.
