Huang Yuan's imperial name was Yulu (玉潞), courtesy name Yuanyu (元御), courtesy name Yuhuzi (玉湫子), a native of Changyi, Shandong, and Huang Yuanyu (黄元御) was the eleventh grandson of Huang Fu, a famous minister of the Ming Dynasty. Huang Yuanyu was born in such a generation of Shuxiang Mendi, and was deeply influenced by family learning since childhood. When he was a teenager, his father invited Mr. Yu Ziyi, a famous Confucian from Qiao Yu Changyi, to be his teacher, to learn the art of juggling and reading the works of scripture and history, hoping that he would be able to enter the army and shine in the court. Huang Yuanyu also "often wanted to strive for the clouds and raise the world with his merits", following the example of his ancestor Huang Fu and making a vigorous deed.
In the second year of Yongzheng (1724), Huang Yuan's imperial examination was born in the Middle Yi Ofe, who was close to the age of the weak crown. In the twelfth year of Yongzheng (1734), Huang Yuanyu was thirty years old, due to excessive diligence, sudden eye disease, red left eye, white eyes like blood, had to postpone medical treatment, quacks misrepresentation led to blindness in the left eye.
In that era of imperial examinations, those with improper facial features were not allowed to enter the career path, which undoubtedly gave Huang Yuanyu a painful blow.
His hard work was finally cut off by quacks, so he turned his grief into strength, and he did not want to be famous for the world, but also to become a famous doctor.

In April of the fifteenth year of Qianlong (1750), Huang Yuanyu traveled north to the capital, just when the Qianlong Emperor was ill, all the tai doctors had no way, after recommendation, Huang Yuanyu was recruited into the palace to see a doctor. In order to test Huang Yuanyu's medical skills, the Qianlong Emperor asked a palace maid to be close to him, hiding behind the tent and asking Huang Yuanyu to diagnose his pulse. After Huang's pulse diagnosis, he said: "The dragon body phoenix pulse is an incurable disease." The Qianlong Emperor was relieved to ask the Huang clan to treat his illness. After eating Huang Yuanyu's medicine, Qianlong's illness was better. Qianlong then gave Huang Yuanyu a chess set made of jade and a chess board made of catalpa wood, and wrote a plaque for Huang Yuanyu with the words "Miao Wu Qi Huang".
