Since last week coincided with Thanksgiving day in North America, new films have been promoted to their premieres on Wednesday. Disney's animated films, which have always performed well in the Gratitude slot, have once again gained prestige, with "Ocean's Edge" winning $81.1 million in five days, surpassing "Toy Story 2" ($80.1 million) and becoming the second highest-grossing film in the history of the Gratitude slot, second only to "Frozen" ($93.6 million). It also grossed $55.52 million over the three weekends, topping the box office list, and the third-highest-grossing new film from Disney Animation Studios, after Zootopia and The Incredible Marines.

Ocean's Cinemascore (after-viewer) rating is a. Of the audience, 45% are men and 55% are women – proving that this feminist film with female protagonists has also won the hearts of male audiences; 34% of the audience is 12 years old and younger, 43% are over 25 years old, and 72% are family movies - proving that this is a veritable family movie.

Outside of North America, Ocean's Edge grossed $16.3 million, including $12.3 million in Chinese mainland.

Hit by Ocean's Edge, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," which ranked first week, slipped to second place, grossing $45.1 million at the weekend. With its landing in Chinese mainland and Japan last week, the film has grossed more than $473 million worldwide, ranking 13th on the 2016 Global Film Box Office List.

Compared to Japan's $15.5 million box office, its performance in Chinese mainland was particularly prominent, with more than $41.1 million at the weekend box office, making the simultaneous release of the film unattainable, and this performance is also better than other Harry Potter films except Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Disney-released and Marvel-produced Doctor Strange continued to make waves, ranking third at the box office with $13.36 million. The film has grossed more than $205 million in North America, surpassing Thor, Ant-Man, Captain America 1, and The Invincible Hulk to become the tenth Marvel film to gross more than $200 million in North America. It has also grossed more than $615 million worldwide and is currently ranked ninth on the 2016 Global Film Box Office List. It is expected that after the release in Japan next January, the ranking will continue to rise.

Fourth on the box office list is Paramount Pictures' new film The Spy League, which grossed $13 million over the weekend with a cinemascore rating of b. Set in Casablanca during World War II, the film was directed by director Robert Zemeckis (director of Forrest Gump and The Rest of a Desert Island) and starred Brad Pitt and Oscar actress Marion Cordia. Although the main plot, its production cost is also as high as $85 million, and the industry expects its first weekend box office to be around 20 million. It can be said that the current box office results are really disappointing.

This is zemeckis's second consecutive box office waterloo. Last year's "Walking in the Clouds" grossed only about $10.1 million in North America and $61.1 million worldwide. However, with the release of "Spy League" this week in Chinese mainland, Russia, Germany, Australia and other places, its overseas box office is expected to win back 10%, after all, the two actors have enough box office appeal around the world; and this is the first film after Pete and Jolie's divorce, and it is also topical enough.

Although "Spy League" did not box office as expected, the science fiction movie "Arrival" made Paramount a windfall. The film, which was released for three weeks, grossed $11.25 million last weekend, ranking fifth on the list. It is also the only non-premiere film in the top ten of the box office list that is still increasing and has slipped the least at the box office.

Another new film in the box office top 10 is "Bad Christmas 2", co-produced by Miramax and Broad Green Pictures, which grossed only $6.1 million at the weekend and cinemascore only C+.

It's not yet the worst new film, though, with the 79-year-old Warren Beatty's self-written and self-directed nostalgic comedy "Rules don't apply," which featured his wife, Annette Bening, at the weekend box office of just $1.57 million, missing the top 10.
