On November 4th, the first North Bund International Shipping Forum with the theme of "Openness, Inclusiveness, Innovation and Change, Win-win Cooperation - Development and Restructuring of the International Shipping Industry Facing the Future" opened in Shanghai.
Eight achievements: low-carbon transformation and development of the shipping industry
On the main forum, eight major achievements were released:
First, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the International Maritime Organization actively consulted and reached a consensus: on the basis of the successful cases of the two sides jointly supporting the construction of the Asian Maritime Technology Cooperation Center in the early stage, we will jointly carry out technical cooperation related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in maritime transport, promote the implementation of the initial strategy of the International Maritime Organization for greenhouse gas emission reduction, and work together to promote stakeholders at the global, regional and national levels to pay attention to and solve major issues in the shipping field such as maritime safety and security, seafarers' rights protection and intelligent shipping. This is the first time that the IMO has reached a consensus on cooperation with local governments, which is of landmark significance for the integration of Shanghai International Shipping Center into the world and the global service.
Second, the Shanghai Export Container Settlement Freight Rate Index passed the standard audit of the International Securities Regulatory Commission. In 2021, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange developed the Shanghai Export Container Settlement Freight Rate Index and passed the "Principles of Price Reporting Institutions" certified by the International Securities Regulatory Commission. This marks that the index has passed the international authoritative recognition, and the Shanghai Shipping Exchange has thus become the first national index institution in China to pass the certification. This move has laid a solid foundation for the listing of shipping tariff index futures products, and once again led the innovation of shipping freight index products.
Third, the "Shipping Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Development Outlook Report 2021" was released for the first time. In order to help the realization of the "double carbon" goal, the China Classification Society put forward a new trend of future international shipping climate governance rules, and proposed the future development trend and path of ship energy and power units, providing an important reference for the development and transformation of the global shipping industry in the direction of low carbon.
Fourth, the "World-class Port Evaluation Report" was released for the first time. The China Economic Information Society and the Institute of Water Transport Science of the Ministry of Transport jointly carry out research on the comprehensive evaluation system of world-class ports, compile and publish the "Comprehensive Evaluation Report of World-class Ports", establish an authoritative world-class port evaluation system in the industry, and lead China's ports to the construction goal of world-class ports.
Fifth, the "Green Performance Evaluation Standards for Type IV Airports" was released for the first time. The standard is researched and compiled by Shanghai Airport Group and other units organized by the Civil Airport Association of China, and puts forward qualitative and quantitative requirements for the development of green airports from five dimensions: resource conservation, health and comfort, low-carbon emission reduction, environmental friendliness and efficient operation. This is the standard document that guides the planning, construction and operation and maintenance management of green airports in an all-round and all-round way.
Sixth, the global air transport industry carbon emission reduction cooperation initiative was released for the first time. This initiative coordinates the safety, green, service and efficiency of civil aviation, integrates green development into the entire industrial chain of air transport, and promotes the green development of global civil aviation towards a greener and more efficient future.
Seventh, the global shipping prosperity index was released for the first time. The prosperity index is a combination of the prosperity index and the confidence index of global container and dry bulk transport enterprises, which is compiled according to the indicators of enterprise capacity delivery and ship turnover rate, reflecting the changes in the internal environment of the enterprise; the confidence index is compiled according to the judgement of the current overall economic development status of the entrepreneur and the expectation of the future trend, reflecting the confidence and mentality of the industry in the global shipping situation.
Eighth, the "Global Port and Shipping Informatization Development Report 2021" was released. The report, innovatively compiled by the Shanghai International Shipping Research Center, has been published for five consecutive years. Since 2019, the report has creatively launched special contents such as the scale calculation of the port and shipping informatization market and the maturity curve of port and shipping information technology, and strives to more objectively and comprehensively summarize the major achievements and experiences of informatization construction in the fields of ports, shipping, ports and maritime in this year, and analyze the trend and trend of future development of port and shipping informatization.
Shanghai Initiative: Innovation transforms global supply chains
The main forum also released the "2021 Shanghai Initiative" - international supply chain maintenance, advocating that the world jointly promote the continuous innovation and wide application of green and low-carbon technologies, effectively implement global greenhouse gas emission reduction actions, and contribute to building a safe, smooth and green global supply chain. The full text is as follows:
As an important cornerstone of the global supply chain, smooth maritime and aviation activities are closely linked to world trade, national economies, industry and commerce, and the lives and well-being of thousands of people.
We strongly feel the impact of COVID-19 on global supply chains, and are determined to work together to ensure the cross-border flow of anti-epidemic materials and the health and safety of employees, and gradually restore the global supply chain system that has been hit.
We are highly concerned that breakthroughs in science and technology are profoundly affecting the operation mode of maritime and aviation activities, and are willing to cooperate to promote the in-depth application of new generation information technologies such as big data, Internet of Things, blockchain, and artificial intelligence, and strive to achieve global supply chain innovation and business reform.
We fully recognize the urgency and importance of adopting green and low-carbon technologies and actions for the sustainable development of transportation, and are committed to jointly promoting the continuous innovation and wide application of green and low-carbon technologies, and effectively implementing global greenhouse gas emission reduction actions.
We deeply appreciate that fast and convenient maritime and aviation activities require cross-border, cross-departmental understanding and multi-party cooperation inside and outside the industry, so let us join hands to contribute to building a safe, smooth and green global supply chain.
