CIIE RCEP High-level Dialogue: Weidong Shipping Seizes Opportunities to Build a New "Golden Bridge" for China-South Korea Exchanges

On November 6, at the high-level dialogue on RCEP economic and trade cooperation held by the Shandong Provincial People's Government during the Fourth CIIE, Wang Lijun, chairman of Weidong Shipping Co., Ltd., said that he would seize the new opportunities of RCEP and build a new "golden bridge" for China-SOUTH Korea exchanges.

Wang Lijun said that after the official signing of the RCEP, the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government have formed a set of "combined fists" in coordinating and working together to promote the implementation of the landing, accelerating the transformation and development of the export-oriented economy to high quality, providing an excellent international stage and new development opportunities for enterprises in the province to deeply participate in transnational economic and trade exchanges.

Since its birth, Weidong Shipping has undertaken the mission of building a golden bridge for friendly exchanges between China and South Korea. Under the strong leadership of the two governments and the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and the Shandong Provincial Government, Weihai City coordinated with Chinese and South Korean enterprises to establish a joint venture to establish Weidong Shipping Co., Ltd., took the lead in opening the first Passenger and Cargo Liner Route between China and South Korea, and successfully built a maritime "golden bridge" for Sino-South Korean economic and trade exchanges and personnel exchanges, making Shandong the most convenient and smooth area for exchanges between China and South Korea.

For more than 30 years since its establishment, with the support of all parties, Weidong Shipping has always maintained the position of "leader" in the industry. Since its establishment, it has operated a total of 28,900 voyages, transported 5.3 million passengers and 2.9 million teu containerized cargo.

At present, the two routes operated by the company, Weihai-Incheon and Qingdao-Incheon, have realized the passenger and cargo liner transportation service of daily shifts. Compared with container ships, passenger and cargo liners can be loaded on the ship together with boxes, and the transportation between ships and ports does not need to be reversed, and the loading and unloading efficiency is more than twice that of traditional container ships, saving loading and unloading costs.

Due to the characteristics of high voyage density, high punctuality rate, fast sailing speed, strong transportation safety, customs clearance and high efficiency of collection and dredging, enterprises can enjoy the speed of air transport at the price of shipping, which is favored by Chinese and Korean trade enterprises, especially those engaged in cross-border e-commerce, electronic products, fresh seafood, vegetables, clothing and other production and trade enterprises, and has quickly become a high-speed golden channel connecting China and South Korea trade logistics.

Wang Lijun said that as a pilot unit designated by the two governments of "China-South Korea Vehicle Logistics", they successfully operated the Weihai-Incheon route car travel business. As one of the first batch of selected enterprises, it took the lead in exploring the "China-South Korea land-sea intermodal vehicle and cargo transportation" model, created the "Incheon-Qingdao-Guangdong" sea-rail intermodal transport channel, and designed a 48-hour "door-to-door" logistics product between the factories of the two countries - "Sunshine Express", which greatly reduced the operating costs of production enterprises, and the current scope of sea-rail intermodal services has covered major areas in China.

At the same time, through the "sea-sea combined transport" and "sea-rail combined transport" mode between China, Japan and South Korea, the service scope radiates to Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Mongolia and other regions, and at the same time, the sea-air intermodal transport channel between China, South Korea, Japan, Europe and the United States has been developed. Promote Shandong to become a bridgehead for Sino-South Korean trade, as well as transit through Central Asia, Europe and the United States.

In order to deepen the pilot project of innovative development of trade in services, the construction of the local economic cooperation demonstration zone and the national cross-border e-commerce comprehensive test area in the China-South Korea Free Trade Zone, Weihai City gives full play to the advantages of Weidong passenger and cargo liner routes, relies on the seaports and airports of the two places to carry out the "four-port linkage", and builds an east-west interconnection international logistics channel with Weihai and Incheon as the nodes. When the inspection of shipping containers is zero, the korean-Chinese-European truck flight has been opened, and the two-way sea-rail intermodal transport channel between South Korea and China and Europe has been opened, and the advantages of characteristic logistics have become more prominent.

Wang Lijun said that in the face of new development opportunities, Under the leadership of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, Weidong Shipping will accelerate its integration into the new development pattern, give play to the role of shipping as a link in transnational economic and trade exchanges, help Shandong build a golden channel between Japan and South Korea, China and ASEAN, and make greater contributions to promoting the upgrading of China-South Korea cooperation and trade prosperity and development.
