In the afternoon, the Shanghai Second Intermediate People's Court announced that it would publicly pronounce judgment on the case at a later date.
Victims' families: I hope to be able to give justice to the victims

On the morning of October 24, 2019, 34-year-old Wu mou was hit by defendant Chen Liwei's car while driving out of office, and died after being sent to the hospital, leaving a child who was only 3 years old.
Mr. Wu, 65, said that Wu was the only son in the family. After a year and a half, he and his wife have been following the progress of the case. This morning, they came to the Shanghai Second Intermediate Court early to go through the formalities of the audit.
Talking about his son who has passed away, Mr. Wu's eyes are moist, and he frankly said that he was greatly hit, saying that he was a white-haired person sending a black-haired person, "At that time, the grandson lost his father at such a young age, and this incident gave us a psychological and spiritual blow that was too great." ”
Regarding today's court appeal, Mr. Wu expressed the hope that the court would handle the case strictly and quickly. "We've been waiting for this day for a long time. We hope that the victims will be given justice, that the perpetrators will be severely punished in accordance with the requirements of the law, and that the society will be given an account. Previously, the procuratorate alleged that at about 9 o'clock on October 24, 2019, defendant Chen Liwei drove a Dongfeng Nissan car with a Shanghai ABQ838 brand borrowed from his son Chen and registered under his daughter-in-law Liu, and set off from the community of Lane 511, Wuzhong Road, and at about 9:21 on the same day, when driving at a speed of 35-37 km/h to the section of No. 525 Daduhe Road, he had a slight collision with an electric vehicle, but Chen Liwei continued to accelerate and changed lanes several times to escape.
In the process of driving away, defendant Chen Liwei rushed into the intersection at a speed of 121 km/h when the signal at the intersection of Daduhe Road and Nujiang Road in front of him jumped to a red light, and then hit the Volkswagen car driven by the victim Jin and the bicycle ridden by the victim Ren.
Chen Liwei still drove along Daduhe Road to accelerate the escape, during which the maximum speed reached 161 km / h. In the case of a red light at the intersection of Daduhe Road and Jinshajiang Road in front of him, Chen Liwei drove at a speed of 119-123 km/h, hitting the electric car ridden by the victim Miao, the Mercedes-Benz car driven by the victim Zhu Moujing, and the electric vehicle ridden by the victim Wang Mou, and finally continuously hitting the Land Rover car driven by the victim Wu mou and the pedestrians zhu moufang, Zhang Mou, Gan Mou, Yu Mou, Zhu Mouzhen, Li Mou, Zhu Mouhong, Yu Mouhong, and Hu Mou at the northeast corner of the intersection. Later, Chen Liwei was arrested on the spot by the public security personnel who rushed to the police.
In the above process, the victim Miao X died on the spot after being hit; the victims Wu X, Zhu X Fang, Zhang X, and Gan X were confirmed dead after being sent to the hospital for ineffective treatment; the victims Ren X, Yu X, Zhu X Zhen, Li X, Zhu X, Yu X Hong, Hu X, etc. were injured to varying degrees; and caused different degrees of damage to 3 motor vehicles and 2 electric vehicles.
The procuratorial organs indicted that the defendant Chen Liwei continued to drive at high speed on urban roads and continuously ran red lights after the accident, hitting multiple vehicles and pedestrians, seriously endangering public safety, and causing serious consequences such as 5 deaths, 1 serious injury, and 6 minor injuries, and his behavior violated article 115 of the Criminal Law, the facts of the crime were clear, the evidence was credible and sufficient, and he should be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of endangering public safety by dangerous means. Defendant Chen Liwei, who was sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment for an intentional crime, and commits another crime that should be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment or above within five years after the completion of the criminal punishment, is a repeat offender and shall be given a heavier punishment according to the first paragraph of article 65 of the Criminal Law.
