Home is the home of the soul tired, and home is the harbor of shelter from the wind and rain. For many people, Hong Kong is such a warm home. After 20 years of return to Hong Kong, it is still full of vitality and charm, attracting different people to make it their home and dedicate themselves to it.
In recent years, many people from the mainland have chosen to study, start a business and work in Hong Kong, known as "Hong Kong Drift". In today's "Home in Hong Kong" series of reports, we come to know a post-80s "Hong Kong drifter" boy Dai Xin, who settled in Hong Kong after 8 years from the mainland to Hong Kong.
In a small alley in downtown Causeway Bay, a company sign with an owl's head hangs quietly at the landing. Following the instructions, it was easy to find Dai Xin's studio, the Owl Photo Studio.
In 2009, Dai Xin went to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to pursue a master's degree in computer science. After graduation, due to work reasons, Dai Xin often came into contact with various cover letters and resumes, the photos on them were various, he felt that he was not professional enough, and he had the idea of opening a photo studio and taking photos specifically.
Dai Xin still remembers that on the first day of asking for directions in Hong Kong, a passerby took the initiative to hand over his mobile phone to him and said: You come from the mainland, it is inconvenient to call, use my call. Let Dai Xin immediately like this city with temperature. When starting a business, he received more support and help. All of this inspired him to pursue his dreams in Hong Kong.
The hardships of entrepreneurship are much the same. In 2015, rents in the Causeway Bay area, a bustling commercial hub, fell sharply, reducing cost pressures. Dai Xin boldly used the Korean process when taking photos, providing suit jackets, formal shoes and makeup services to take a series of vibrant, dignified and generous professional photos.
Gradually, from the early days of opening to rely on the previous connections, by friends to introduce customers, to later rely on word of mouth to make a name for themselves. Former Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong, Eric Leung, Secretary for Food and Health, Mr Ko Wing Man, and Chairman of the Airport Authority Of Hong Kong, Mr. Su Chak-kwong, have all taken photos of him at his photo studio.
The improvement and recognition of her career has also allowed Dai Xin to contact more locals. Different identities vary by age. From taking professional photos to formal-style family photos. In them, there is the same perseverance and struggle as Dai Xin, as well as dreams and pursuits for the future. Dai Xin felt that little by little, she was integrated into the local area. Hong Kong became not only the place where his career took off, but also the home of his soul.
Dai Xin dreams of making the Owl Photo Studio the best professional photo studio in China. He is currently preparing to open a second studio in Tsim Sha Tsui.
