Talk about the islands (31) The batan islands (Batan Islands) throat of the Luzon Strait

author:Fantastic map

The Batan Islands, also translated as batan Islands, consist of 14 small islands in the Luzon Strait. The total area is 209 square kilometers. The four largest islands in the archipelago, Namely Itbayat, Batan, Sabtang and Ibuhos, are inhabited, and the other small islands are also inhabited by coral reefs. The total population is only 17,000 people, and it is still decreasing, after all, several islands are not strictly speaking, suitable for living.

The following content is my scribbled, everyone can take a look.

There is actually nothing to say about the scenery of the Bataan Islands, this place is a volcanic island, although there is abundant precipitation, but the whole is very desolate, more rocky and a few woody. Typhoon activity in three seasons of the year makes it difficult for these small islands to develop agriculture. Plants can only grow sweet potatoes, and houses can only build thick walls with stones. Therefore, there is no advantage in developing tourism.

So I'm going to focus on the strategic location of the archipelago.

The strait between The islands of Taiwan and Luzon is collectively known as the Luzon Strait, but this strait is divided into two waterways by the Bataan Islands, the Bashi Channel and the Balintang Channel.

The sea route from Japan to the hinterland of Southeast Asia either crosses the Taiwan Strait or passes through the Luzon Strait, and the Location of the Bataan Islands, which chokes the throat of the Luzon Strait, is extremely important. The warship traveled from Guam to Singapore, through the Philippine Sea, through the Luzon Strait, and through the South China Sea is the safest route. In particular, the water depth of this route is relatively large, and its significance for the big blackfish is self-evident.

In recent years, we have often seen the news that the PLAAf Force has gone to the area between the Dongsha Islands and the Bataan Islands for exercises, first, this place has a large area, and the exercise has little interference with civil aviation, and second, the location is important, and the future is an important preset position. The high-tech aircraft with long tails are constantly active in this area, and their purpose is certainly not for the 4 antique regular fish on the other side, but for the big black fish behind the separatist forces.

Historically, Chinese set foot in the Bataan Archipelago very early, an important stop on the way to Luzon from the southeast coast, and porcelain pieces from the Song Dynasty have been found on the island. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Zheng Chenggong's descendants also administered the Bataan Islands as a haven and water point between Taiwan Island and Luzon Island. But in 1783 (the forty-eighth year of the Qianlong Qing Dynasty), the Spaniards, after taking control of the rest of the Philippines, also extended their hands to this place and annexed it. After the Spanish-American War, this area became one of the garrisons of the US military.

The invasion of the Westerners was never to benefit the land, but to see the important location here, and its purpose was to use the Bataan Islands as a springboard to guard important shipping lanes and wait for the opportunity to invade the northern islands
