Literati who were born into the military generally began with the word "Wen", such as Wen Zheng, Wen Xiang, Wen Zhong, etc., and senior military generals generally began with the word "Wu", Yue Fei was the deputy director of the Privy Council before his death, roughly equivalent to the current vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, so the "Wu" character in the title indicates that Yue Fei's identity is a senior general. So what does the word "Mu" in "Wu mu" mean? In the Dharma, Budd is righteous. Looking at Yue Fei's short life, at the time of the fall of the Northern Song Dynasty, we formed the Yue family army to resist jin, with strict discipline, outstanding military achievements, and deeply supported by the people, so it is more appropriate to use the word "Mu" of Bude's righteousness to summarize Yue Fei's deeds of protecting the country and loving the people.
In addition to "Wu Mu", Yue Fei also had a nickname called "Zhongwu". In January 1142, after Yue Fei was killed at the Fengbo Pavilion, he was buried outside the Qiantang Gate in Hangzhou by a jailer named Kui Shun. In 1162, after Emperor Xiaozong of Song succeeded to the throne, he rehabilitated Yue Fei, took the title of "Wu Mu", and reburied Yue Fei in Qixialing, which is now the Yue Wang Temple on the edge of the West Lake. Later, in 1225, Emperor Lizong of Song posthumously named Yue Fei the King of E, and reformulated his posthumous title as "Zhongwu", which was Yue Fei's second title.
In fact, compared with "Wu Mu", the nickname of "Zhongwu" is undoubtedly higher than one notch. In ancient times, the highest courtesy name of a civilian was "Wenzheng", and the highest title of a military general was "Zhongwu". Before Yue Fei, those who had received the title of "Zhongwu" were Zhuge Liang, who bowed to the end of the Three Kingdoms period; Guo Ziyi, who had made meritorious contributions to the Tang Dynasty; and Han Shizhong, one of the famous generals in the Southern Song Dynasty. Although Yue Fei's nickname of "Wu Mu" is also positive and more objective, it is lower than that of Han Shizhong in the same period.
Because the nickname "Zhongwu" was re-formulated 83 years after Yue Fei's death, before that everyone called "Yue Wumu" had been called "Yue Wumu" for decades, so "Yue Wu mu" was more well-known in the folk, while Yue Fei's nickname of "Zhongwu" was ignored by many people.
In fact, whether it is called "Yue Wumu" or "Yue Zhongwu", it will not affect Yue Fei's position in the minds of Chinese, yue Fei has become a spiritual model of the Chinese nation, inspiring generation after generation of Chinese.
