It is understood that due to the long growth cycle of scallops, in the spring and autumn of each year, the scallops should be divided twice to ensure that the scallop seedlings have enough growth space. At the scallop seed site, the farmers first cleaned the scallop seedlings, removed the inferior scallop seedlings, reloaded the sorted scallop seedlings into the cage, and transported them by boat to the scallop breeding area and hung them on the raft rack to continue breeding.
Rongcheng coastal area has grown a large number of wild ctenophore scallops since ancient times, and is one of the main origins of ctenophore scallops in China. In 1985, the "artificial seedling technology of ctenophore scallops" undertaken by Rongchenghai Treasure Nursery was successfully developed and won the "Second Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress" of Shandong Province, and the State Council released it to the world as a communiqué of achievements that year. After that, a new variety of "Penglai Red" ctenophore scallop cultivated by Rongcheng in cooperation with ocean university of China was successful. The new species of "Penglai Red" ctenophore scallop has strong stress resistance, which effectively solves the problem of high mortality rate of farmed ctenophore scallops since the end of the last century. At the same time, it has many advantages such as fast growth, high meat yield, high temperature resistance, strong disease resistance and so on.
In 2020, Rongcheng scallop culture area was 532 hectares, and the output was 48 384 tons. Scallop breeding area is mainly distributed in the eastern waters of Rongcheng, there are many species such as ctenophore scallops, bay scallops and Ezo scallops, and the breeding mode of combining factory artificial seedlings, semi-artificial seedlings at sea, shallow sea raft cage culture, drill ear hanging culture and bottom sowing breeding is implemented. Scallop seedlings grow for about a year to start the first stage of seedlings. In the words of the seedling workers, the nutritional value of an Ezo scallop column is worth an egg, and it is a veritable high-nutrition, high-protein food. A few days ago, the scallop seeding operation of Xunshan Group has all been completed, and the 130 acres of marine breeding area are hung with scallop cages, waiting for the second seedling sorting operation in the spring of the next year.
