In his revolutionary career, General Song Shilun successively participated in the anti-"encirclement and suppression" campaigns in the Central Soviet Region, the Long March, the Eastern Expedition, the Western Expedition, the Battle of Menglianggu, the Battle of Jinan, the Battle of Huaihai, the Battle of Crossing the River, and the Battle of Shanghai, with outstanding achievements.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served as commander and political commissar of the 9th Corps of the Chinese Volunteer Army, deputy commander of the Volunteer Army and commander and political commissar of the 9th Corps. During the Battle of Chosin Lake, General Song Shilun led the Ninth Corps of the Volunteer Army to a fierce battle with the United Nations Army led by the American Army. It was this arduous battle that reversed the trend of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and drove the United Nations army back to the south of the 38th parallel. He was awarded the rank of general in 1955 and ranked 38th out of 55 generals. He died in Shanghai on September 17, 1991 at the age of 84.

Liling City intends to rebuild the former residence and memorial garden of General Song Shilun and develop this place into a red tourist attraction.
