Recently, when the scientific researchers of Longqi Mountain Nature Reserve carried out daily monitoring in the field, they found an "owl" with large eyes and brown feathers in Yujiaping Banjia, lying on the stomach when standing on the bamboo shoots, looking east and west, full of cuteness. Experts from the Provincial Bird Watching Association have identified that this big-eyed bird is actually a spotted partridge, a national second-level key protected animal, and has been included in the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species, which is a veritable "national treasure".
Spot-headed partridge encountered by researchers in Longqi Mountain Reserve
The spotted grematum (scientific name: glaucidium cuculoides) is a bird of the family Grematidae and the genus Grematus. Spotted owls are small owls with a body length of 20–26 cm, the largest of the plovers, with inconspicuous faces and no ear feather clusters. The body plumage is brown , with fine white transverse spots on the head and upper and lower body feathers , a white ventral , broad brown longitudinal stripe around the lower abdomen and anus , and a pronounced white spot on the throat. The spotted grebe mainly inhabits broad-leaved forests, mixed forests, secondary forests and forest edge shrubs from plains and low hills to the middle mountains at an altitude of about 2000 m, mostly active and foraging during the day, can catch small birds and large insects in the air like eagles, mainly feeds on various insects and larvae, and also eats rodents, small birds, earthworms, frogs and lizards.

I also accidentally photographed baby chamois crossing the street
As soon as the spotted partridge was discovered, the staff of the Longqi Mountain Administration Bureau immediately carried out on-site publicity and education to the surrounding villagers and tourists to ensure that our "national treasure" was not disturbed and harmed. The continuous discovery of rare wild animals not only reflects the rich diversity of wildlife populations in Longqi Mountain Nature Reserve, but also further highlights the effectiveness of resource management and conservation in the reserve.
