Morphological characteristics
It is small (about 24 cm) and is covered with tan transverse spots, the head and neck and upper body are dark brown, and densely covered with fine brown-white transverse spots, the transverse spots on the head and neck are particularly small and dense; the eyebrow lines are white; there is a prominent white patch on the throat; the thorax and upper abdomen are dark brown, and the lower abdomen is white, with broad brown longitudinal stripes. The mouth is yellowish brown, the feet are yellowish green, and the claws are black.
Habitat
Most of them inhabit the woods, and can also be seen in the green space on the outskirts of the city. It is also common in lowlands and hilly small woodlands.
Habits of life

Spotted partridges are mostly active alone or in pairs. They are generally active and foraging during the day, and some are also active at night.
Don't look at them cute, but they can catch birds and large insects in the air like eagles. It feeds mainly on locusts, beetles, mantises, cicadas, crickets, ants, dragonflies, caterpillars and other insects and larvae, but also eats rodents, birds, earthworms, frogs and lizards.
The chirp is loud, and a rapid vibrato is emitted at dusk in the morning, which is lowered and the volume increases. Another double whistle sound, like a dog bark, increases in volume and speed, repeating it to full sound, and can be heard for miles on a quiet night.

Breeding methods
Each clutch lays 4-7 eggs, white eggs, the incubation period is 28-29 days, the female is responsible for incubating the eggs, the male is responsible for feeding the chicks, and the chicks are late in adulthood.

In China, it is found in southern Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Anhui, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Hainan Island. Outside of China, it is found in India, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The spotted grebe is listed on the IUCN 2012 Red List of Threatened Species ver 3.1 – No Threatened (lc).
The spotted-headed partridge has been included in the List of Wild Animals under National Key Protection level II protected animals issued by the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Agriculture of China on January 14, 1989.
