Chinese Go star Luo Jianwen died of illness

Beijing, 21 Dec (Xinhua) -- Luo Jianwen, a famous Chinese Go player and former vice chairman of the China Weiqi Association, died in Beijing on the evening of 20 December at the age of 74 due to illness.

Luo Jianwen suffered from pancreatic cancer 4 years ago and was diagnosed with cancer cells metastasis this year. At the second Taiping Shuzhen Cup Go Elders Invitation Tournament held last month, Luo Lao's illness and Nie Weiping played against Nie Weiping in the final, which was also the last time he participated in a Go tournament in his life.

Born in 1943 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, Luo Jianwen participated in the first National Games, and was one of the first national players when the Chinese National Go Training Team was established in 1961. In 1982, after the first implementation of the Dan system in the Chinese Chess Academy, Luo Jianwen was awarded the Seven Dans, and successively served as the deputy head coach of the Chinese Weiqi team, the deputy director of the Weiqi Department of the Chinese Chess Academy, and the vice chairman of the Weiqi Association. In Luo Jianwen's Go career, as a teacher, he brought out many young players, including world champion Luo Xianhe.
