"The mountains are not high, but the immortals are named; the water is not deep, but the dragons are spirits." Yuan Caiyun is a famous Chinese medicine doctor in the Department of Ophthalmology of Taoyuan County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Hunan Province. She rose to fame in the late 1960s, treating eye diseases for many national leaders, and was widely praised; she was awarded the honorary titles of "National March 8th Red Flag Bearer" and "Model Worker of Hunan Province", and her name was included in "Chinese Modern Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine".
Yuan Caiyun is a legendary figure, and her life experience is more ups and downs than most doctors. She has rejoiced, frustrated, peaked, troughed, ebbed and flowed, flowers blossomed, but she was indifferent when she was proud, calm when she was frustrated, in the face of a disturbed world, she said that although she could not fully control the future direction, she could choose a correct attitude to treat people and things, always adhere to the clinical front line, and wholeheartedly serve eye patients. As a result, she enjoys a high reputation and a wide prestige among the masses of the people.

Yuan Caiyun has been engaged in the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine ophthalmology, proficient in classics, and various families, integrating the theories of traditional Chinese medicine, asking questions about diseases, grasping the main symptoms, identifying tongue veins, emphasizing dialectical treatment, and obtaining more miraculous results.
I had the privilege of attending the first TCM Ophthalmology Seminar in Hunan Province in the early 1980s and became her student. Listening to the teacher's ophthalmic academic lectures and observing and learning with the diagnosis and clinical evidence, my theoretical level of TCM and clinical experience in ophthalmology have been greatly improved, and I am full of confidence that TCM can cure eye diseases.
Traditional Chinese medicine is an empirical medical science that attaches equal importance to theory and practice, and is the crystallization of the 5,000 years of wisdom of the Chinese nation. Famous and old Chinese medicine practitioners are the group with the deepest attainments and the highest clinical level of traditional Chinese medicine, and are a model for combining the theory and experience of traditional Chinese medicine with today's clinical practice. Teacher inheritance is one of the important models of TCM education and one of the key issues in the development of TCM. With the remarkable efficacy of a number of famous old Chinese medicine practitioners in rich clinical practice, a distinctive academic ideological connotation has been formed. Zi Yue: "Words are not written, not far away", TCM theory and experience need to be passed down from generation to generation, with a deep theoretical background of TCM and rich bed experience of TCM ophthalmology doctors, has been like a morning star, a handful, do a good job in the inheritance of academic ideas, can make the famous old Chinese medicine lifelong experience forever.
Yuan Caiyun is 86 years old (2021) this year, has only one son under his knees, is engaged in the electronics industry, and has no descendants to practice medicine. She had taught hundreds of outstanding students, spread across the country, but most had lost touch, and some had even become ancient. I am one of Yuan Caiyun's students, although I am nearly seventy years old, I still have a strong sense of social responsibility, and I want to organize Yuan Caiyun's clinical experience into a book for future generations. After consultation and cooperation with Yuan Caiyun, I finally completed the manuscript of this book and completed my wish.
In the process of compiling this book, it has received strong support from the leaders and staff of Taoyuan County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Hunan Province, and in addition, the inheritors of the "Huxiang Yuan's Ophthalmic School Teacher and Student Genealogy" have provided a lot of information, and hereby express our heartfelt thanks and respect to them. In particular, I was touched and admired by Teacher Yuan's meticulous, rigorous and realistic spirit. I would also like to thank my family for their silent support and dedication to my work.
