Comrade Norman Bethune is a member of the Canadian Communist Party and a world-renowned specialist in thoracic surgery. In 1937, after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in China, he was sent by the Communist Party of Canada and the Communist Party of the United States to come to China in early 1938 and arrived in Yan'an in the spring of the same year. Our great leader, Chairman Mao, received him. Soon after, he was transferred to the post-war base area and served as a health consultant for the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region. In the arduous war environment, he took Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought as his guidelines, regarded the cause of the liberation of the Chinese people as his own cause, shared weal and woe with the military and the people in the anti-Japanese base areas, and made tremendous contributions to the cause of liberation of the Chinese people with a high degree of internationalism, communist spirit, and selfless enthusiasm for work. Later, Comrade Bethune died on November 12, 1939 due to the ineffective treatment of the wounded and the treatment was ineffective.
