The 59-year-old Xu Lixia has many identities: she is a member of the Chinese Folk Writers Association, a paper-cutting artist of folk arts and crafts in Hebei Province, a representative inheritor of intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting in Lunan District, and a paper-cutting special course teacher at Fanzhuang Primary School in Daodi Town, Lunan District. For decades, Xu Lixia has worked diligently in the world of paper-cutting art, practicing the paper-cutting skills of "leaves are out of the golden knife, flowers are new with jade", and also use paper-cutting to pin down inner emotions.

Xu Lixia has been learning paper-cutting under the influence of her mother since childhood, and has slowly mastered the paper-cutting process in cutting and carving, and she likes to live in harmony with paper-cutting. As long as she sees it, she can create various images into paper-cut works.

For decades, Xu Lixia has inherited her mother's traditional scissors and hinge process, and has also made great efforts to improve on the traditional paper-cutting process, combining cutting, engraving and painting to innovate textured lines, patterns and picture content.

However, she is also often troubled by the question of the inheritance of paper-cutting art: how to pass it on? Who will pass it on? First of all, it is necessary to protect the works of old folk paper-cutting artists, so that future generations can refer to them.

Xu Lixia began to collect a lot of style, she looked for folk paper-cutting old artists, collected and protected their works one by one, but how can she pass on this ancient art well by her own strength?

Just when she was worried, Wang Xiuqing, the principal of Fanzhuang Primary School in Daodi Town, Lunan District, built a platform for the inheritance of paper-cutting art. After some discussion, Xu Lixia and Principal Wang Xiuqing decided to introduce the folk art of paper-cutting into the school curriculum with the concept of "practicing skillful hands, cultivating habits, and cutting out a colorful life" and the purpose of "inheriting folk art and carrying forward the national spirit", and carefully cultivating "new seedlings of paper-cutting".

From the formal establishment of the paper-cutting special course in 2005 to the mature paper-cutting curriculum system now, from the clumsy and childish paper-cutting works of first-grade students when they entered the school, to the vivid and delicate creative design of the sixth-grade students when they graduated, Xu Lixia saw the hope of the inheritance of paper-cutting art, and also saw the impact of paper-cutting art on successive generations of students.

Nowadays, under the careful teaching of Xu Lixia, some children can independently design and produce paper-cut works. These developments, changes and inheritances make Xu Lixia very pleased, she sends affection with paper-cutting, and uses her works to spur herself on to be a paper-cutting inheritor who is "willing to dedicate and have both virtues".

Xu Lixia has three wishes to complete: first, let the paper-cutting art succeed others; second, do her best to raise paper-cut works to protect old folk artists; third, she wants to hold a paper-cutting exhibition so that the world can witness the beauty of paper-cutting. If you see that our program has been touched, you may wish to help Xu Lixia build a platform to fulfill her third wish and contribute to folk traditional arts together.
