Gao Xiaosheng (1928-1999) was born into a peasant family in Jiangsu Province. In 1948, he was admitted to the Economics Department of Shanghai Law School. In 1949, he entered the Southern Jiangsu Journalism College and graduated the following year. He has successively engaged in mass cultural work in the Southern Jiangsu Literary Association and the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Culture, and served as an editor in the literary and art supplement of Xinhua Daily. In 1957, together with Fang Zhi and Lu Wenfu, he proposed to establish the "Explorers" literary society and drafted the "Explorers" Literary Monthly Notice, which was classified as a rightist and rehabilitated in 1979 and returned to the literary world. He is a director of the China Writers Association and the vice chairman of the Jiangsu Writers Association Branch. Recently, it has been mainly prose writing.
